One of the best bits of legends but runs the risk of giving heavy set legends fan boys hope that more of the schlock will make it in there.

Thrawn is acceptable. The Vong or anything by KJA just isn't.

 

I mean, I don't know about anyone else, but I thought the TFA storyline of a promising student in Luke's academy falling sway to a possibly ancient dark sider and bringing it down was kind of based off the KJA trilogy.

 

That at least was original stuff, unlike most of the Legends material.
An Outrider type ship also appeared in the trailer, so it's clear Filoni is trying to appease as many fans as possible by adding in certain things.
Thrawn is a great character, it's good he's canonised in cartoon & book form again.
Hopefully the same will happen to some Old Republic era characters

I sure hope this round of canon doesn't fall into the trap of SUDDENLY SURPRISE SITH EMPIRE every 500 years because they've run out of enemies.

 

I'm trying to ignore any similarities that may exist between Ben and Kyp.

I agree the EU wasn't always full of original ideas, but neither was TFA (Death Star 3, chasing a droid, desert planet etc).

What is good in the EU deserves to be canonised , so long as the changes don't alter too much of what originally made those things great.

 

Well, Luke having an academy and then a srudent going to the dark side is the most obvious plot ever, so I don't think KJA deserves any credit for that idea at all.

 

Oh with Dave Filoni in charge I'm expecting it. That or Thrawn ends up joining the Rebellion. Something totally out of character and specifically designed to annoy Thrawn's fans.

 

Yes, once you open the box, what else escapes? I am perfectly happy, very happy, Thrawn is back "in". But, Vong and KJA is a bridge too far. Galaxy Guns and other **** needs to keep out.

 

The Galaxy Gun was the only good part of that entire comic, though. Probably because it's just a Star Wars version of a Colony Laser.

TBH, I'm kinda glad that good old GAT is back in the fold. Heir To the Empire was my first exposure to any EU material. I guess that this year being the 25th anniversary of the publishing of that book, something special like this was expected.Thrawn was a cool villain and I kinda rooted for him to win, despite the obvious bias his creator had for him. I fear though that Zahn and Filoni may follow through by also canonizing the ultimate May Sue: Mara Jade.

Mara is very popular, no reason a version of her can't be used at some point.
