Although it was foolish of Lucasfilm to hire him based on that.
At least they were smart enough this time to get rid of him before filming was 75% complete

 

If Star Wars was his guide through life, that was his prequels. In which case he'll sell the franchise to Disney and we'll get 5 films in the next 3 years highlighting various parts of the Henry Cinematic Universe. All with snappy dialogue from an ultra-smart male protagonist that makes 4th wall jokes.

 

Okay, Disney. Don't mess this up. Since you're officially in the fan service business, give them what they want.

I don't particularly care about Trevorrow. Yeah, Jurassic World sucked, but I doubt most directors would have done better. As with JW and the MCU and all these giant-budget films, what matters is that they say "yes" to the producers and studio execs.

 

Ah, but you forget the potent core of total incompetence he laid bare for all to see with Book of Henry. I was pretty excited for the possibility of a Star Wars which was not "merely" bad in the franchise's traditional mode, but transcendently bad; the kind of bad that makes you look back at the whole of human history and say to yourself: "Yes. This is what we were building towards. This is why we are here. Finally." Badvana. Badksha. Some third thing with bad.

I meant in the broad "Star Wars was always bad" sense of my usual shtick but certainly the Ewok movies and the Holiday Special have hewed closest to the ideal.

I have a soft spot for Safety Not Guaranteed, but Jurassic World was one of the worst movies of 2015. Can't say that I'm disappointed, though chaos is not often good for any movie project.
