Advice for surviving cons:

1) Bring a backpack or to take with you every day.
2) Carry protein/granola bars
3) ALWAYS KEEP A WATER BOTTLE ON YOU!!! Don't be a rookiee con attendee and dehydrate
4) Carry a Scripto pen
5) If there are lockers rent one and put an extra pair of shoes in them. Your feet will thank you later. wink
6) Have pre-arranged meetings places and put everyone's cell number in your phone list
7) Have fun for me, I won't be there cry

I don't know the answer to what are they going to take, cash is easiest, but it's also the easiest to loose or get stolen. Plastic is best if "lost or stolen" in a concern.
I would think that any dealer wanting to keep his/her reputation within the community would take plastic, even on the convention floor.

If you have a debit/credit card that you can put your money into, that would be a good idea. You can keep cash though. I didn't buy a lot at C3 and used my debit card/credit card most of the time. Cash is best when you need to pay somebody or split a restaurant bill. Using an ATM machine is another option. Then you can get out only what you need and not risk having the entire wad stolen.

Good idea... best of both worlds. Security of plastic with the option of getting cash when needed.

You don't want to loose you wad at C4. Well... maybe you do want to loose your wad at C4. silly
