Good episode. Thought the Sontaran's height would out me off and make them less indimidating, but they rocked. Not as familiar with them as much as say the daleks or cybermen but I liked their character.

And yeah, all I could say was 'Smash the bloody window' at the end.

Next weeks looks good.

that particular music, thats played that the moment when the Ood say what they do to the doctor, I find confusing if it's Rose's theme or the Doctors. I instantly remember it being in the 1st xmas special when the doctor exhales that yellow cells (or whatever the hell it was).

As I said above, the Doctor's theme uses a similar instrument but is a different tune. I just watched that part of Christmas Invasion, and it's definitely the Doctor's theme, as it appears on the Soundtrack album happy

This week's ep. Yeah, I quite enjoyed it. Loved the part where the Doctor and Luke correct each other's grammar. (Specifically the ATMOS System one as that is a big pet peeve of mine wink )

Donna was very good again. Martha not so good. Seeing them together shows me that were right to change assistant (even if it was Martha who decided to quit).

As always, Bernard Cribbins is a treat

I didn't like Martha as much as before, she seemed a bit too big for her boots. Although even at her weakest point she's a better actress then Catherine Tate is.

The Sontarans were well done, and looked pretty much the same as I remember them being before. They kept the continuity of the neck valve weakness too which was good.

One thing I found odd was that the Sontarans all spoke differently, but they used to all sound the same. That's not a major problem but I wondered if it was simply an error or whether it was changed to be like that.

I look forward to part 2

Hated it.

Too many characters, Earth invaded again, London invaded AGAIN, very public spectacle, family of the assistant, lame technology used to kickstart the plot, more mentions of alien worlds than we're ever likely to see in the show itself... all the stuff I hate about Doctor Who encapsulated in one lazy 45 minutes. I cannot understand how they can put this stuff on screen every bloody series and get away with calling it 'new'.

The constant references to the time war suggest that it's going to play a large part in later episodes or be a key factor in 2009's specials.

Is it just me or is he using Dr who as a political forum in a big wat ATM as the past few episodes have had a fair few global warming references

1, No need to smash the window as it was quite obvious to me and the Doctor that the gas is not poisonous (else half the world would have been wiped out and that would not have happened because part 2 is next week).

2, Tate is a much better actor than the stumpy legged one. I presume that they had to write that bit in about her clone having memories as she could not act "hypnotised".

3, BBC yet again preaching about environmental issues - as I said before, go tell it to the Government, not us, we don't have a voice.

4, Sontaran make-over is awful. The originals were more menacing. Are they really that short?

The original Sontarans were meant to be short, and I think they were in comparisson with Jon Pertwee.
The last couple of Sontaran appearances they were normal sized I think. But continuity was not that great towards the end of the classic series.

They come from a planet with extremely high gravity, so they have not been able to evolve a neck or grow to a great height.

As Richie said, the Sontarans evolved on a heavy-g planet which made them shorter and stockier (and a lot stronger). While Sontarans that I saw on the Sontaran Experiment and the Time Warrior weren't that short, I expect Davies wanted to make it clear.

Indifferent to the episode. Some good, others bad.

Next week's looks crazy and I'm looking forward to it. Might even beat Doomsday for battle scenes.

BTW, I read the NOTW or some similar paper the other day. Seems that the Xmas episode is being filmed and our favourite Cybus Cybermen are involved...

Speaking of which... obviously don't read or click on any links below if you're sensitive to spoilers...

I live in Gloucester at the moment, and the Doctor Who cast and crew spent three days on location here last week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). All three days shooting took place on the evening and through the night. Unfortunately, I didn't know they were here on Monday, and so missed the best bit (can be seen here and here). The second set say they were taken on the 22nd (Tuesday), but that's not true (at least based on my experience), they're a mixture of Monday and Tuesday.

On the Monday (21st) the production was outside of Gloucester Cathedral creating a snow scene. That was when filming was most public, and as I say I was unaware. The local paper alerted my attention to the goings on on Tuesday, and so right after work I scooted down to the Cathedral. Of the second lot of pics above, the second, third, fourth and fifth pics are Tuesday pics. The rest are Monday. Had I been there Monday, I would've got a great look at the cast and crew. Ah well...

So on the Tuesday (22nd), I went into Gloucester to see what I could see. I arrived at the car park the production had overtaken for the few days they were there - here. The coach on the right hand side is for the extras. They were being herded into it at about 8pm. Close-up pics here and here.

Eventually David Tennant emerged dressed as The Doctor, was shuttled into his car, and whisked away the short ride to the set near the Cathedral. Unfortunately, that evening they were filming in an area of the Catedral grounds in which they could easily hide away. The best I could do was look through an archway, which revealed part of the set, and listen to the "Action!" and "Cut!" commands - the speakers hidden from view. We heard a few snatches of dialogue too, The Doctor sounding very concerned! The shoot was destined to go on into the night, and after some good chats with the press (they were happy to show us their photographs from the previous evening - really good shows of everyone - including spoilers!) we called it a night. About 10pm. By all accounts it went on through the night, but there was nothing to see for the casual bystander.

On the Wednesday (last day of the shoot), they had finished up in the Cathedral grounds, and had moved (once again for an evening shoot) to a small side street near the Cathedral. They'd dressed it up to look like a Victorian side street. Really good. Some photos of it here and here. I'm in the second one, the person with his head turned around on the left-hand side of the crowd in the black jacket. We saw plenty of SFX and production guys come in and out of the set (including a number I recognised from Doctor Who Confidential) and watched as they blew the fake snow all over the place. They brought in a huge mat, which is the sort of thing an actor would fall on if falling from a number of stories up.

To be honest, the crowds were getting excessive and boistrous by this time (about 8.30pm) - lots of impatient children - and it was clear that no actor was going to turn up until much later. We made to leave, and the police turned up to push the crowds back. If you can imagine from the photographs, they were setting up their cameras at the far end of the street, and needed their angles clean right up to the end the crowds were at. Thus, everyone was pushed right back to the left and the right and basically couldn't see anything. All the crew and staffers were polite but to the point with the crowds. Very professional. I should stress there was no unrest. The worst thing that happened was a few hormonal teenage girls got all upset because they were being moved away from a spot they had obviously staked out all day to get a glimpse of David Tennant.

At that point we left, as there was no chance of anyone seeing anything. We went back to the car park from yesterday as work was that Tennant and Morrissey hadn't yet left their trailers. So we went and waited for 20 minutes, and at about 9.30pm (ish) both Tennant and Morrissey emerged and got into their respective vehicles. Tennant waved. We also saw Tennant rushing between trailers before that, half in costume half in normal clothes. Not quick enough to photograph him unfortunately. Tennant is in the back of this car, sitting next to - what appears to be - one of the actors photographed by others in the set of photos taken on Monday 21st (above).

As expected, nobody saw anything in the two centre near the Cathedral. We came back at about midnight, and they were conducting a couple of very loud BOOMS (not really explosions I don't think) which resulted in large plumes of smoke rising up above Gloucester's city centre in the midnight sky. The gulls didn't take kindly to it! Alas, the cast had gone, and we watched for a little while as the SFX team took advantage of the quiet (and lack of crowds) to go about their busness. It looked like lots of small shots that didn't require any actors.

So there we go. I missed the good stuff on Monday (such if life), but it was an interesting few days none-the-less.
