My only quarrel with GITFP was that the clockwork robots were IMO pretty crappy. It wasn't a bad episode, but it dropped ranking for me among Moffat's best since it had disappointing villains

Don't forget there's a new special on tonight - Planet of the Dead. It's on from 645-745 pm on BBC1 and repeated tomorrow from 700-800 pm on BBC3. Tomorrow's showing is followed by Dr Who Confidential on the making of the special from 800-845 pm.

By no means the worst episode ever. Not brilliant as a "special", but miles better than the last Christmas episode. This is certainly an episode I'll watch again, unlike The Unquiet Dead, Boomtown, or 42.

Couple of things stood out. UNIT clearly will play a big part in the future shows with references to when they will see the Doctor, and the Doctor giving jobs to 2 of the passengers.

Plus, I'm not sure how I feel about the Doctor freeing Christina at the end. She's still a thief when all is said and done. That felt out of character.

But it was still an episode I enjoyed, as I say, much more than the 2008 Xmas episode.

I liked pretty much everything. Can't say there's anything I'd really improve.

Also, did anyone else think of the Masters drumming when that woman mentioned knocking four times?

Not a bad episode. I rather liked the bus flying over London after it returned through the hole. The 'fly guys' were a bit dumb though. I agree on UNIT playing more of a part in future episodes.

First thing that came to my mind when I heard 'four knocks' was the four specials, I'm afraid..

I kinda liked PotD - All the adverts I had seen left me with very low expectations of the episodes but it was better than I thought it was going to be. It was certainly so much better than the last two Christmas specials

IMO, of course

I did like it. Apart from Michelle Ryan's terribly forced accent she played Lady Christina well and she & The Doctor had a good chemistry together.
The background characters proved useful enough not to be a pointless annoyance which was good.

Didn't care much for the Fly-people, but they had a use I guess. There was an old-style Who feeling about them.
The Ray creatures were cool and cleverly thought out, although I didn't really buy the whole swarming fast enough to make a Worm Hole thing.

The flying bus was a pretty poor piece of CGI, but I was happy to suspend disbelief for the few moments it was shown on screen.
Exactly why The Doctor was without the TARDIS or why he was unable to summon it as he so readily has in the past was not explained, nor was how UNIT planned to deal with the flying bus incident (do they have Men In Black type amnesia devices?).

I guess it's possible the villain mentioned at the end could be The Master, although RTD did say he was not going to bring him back and would leave it for someone else to do.

Any idea when the next special is going to be?

Really? Because I heard that he has had his hair cut and bleached, and that would be the worst regeneration in the history of the show. May I have linkage to back this up please. grin

No reason why he can't play a different character, it's been done before.
