Reading all this makes me want to really go, but I think it's a bit too difficult for me as I have things of greater importance and priority to deal with first.....no doubt next week I'll change my mind though 
Nina, how many crazy Swedes plan to go this time round? 
I'm seeing my Uncle on Saturday and hope to get more info for the supposed UK event, but I'm beginning to doubt anything will happen now and C4 already sounds amazing (but very expensive).

I reckon they will show a marathon of all 6 I-VI. I went to the marathon in the UK at Leicester Square last year (IV-VI, I-III) and George seemed to imply they would do it again the 'right' way round (he actually joked they were doing it the next day - who's up for it - massive cheers of 'meeeeee yeeyyyyyy' even though we'd just sat through 12 hours worth!) I went on holiday to california (san fran to LA then vegas - amazing) last year hoping to see episode III at Manns, and it was showing the Longest Yard - rubbish! I ended up seeing it in the IMAX at Universal (not too shabby, but not the same). If they do do a marathon showing, go, its absolutely brilliant - there's nothing like 1200 other people cheering/laughing/being sad at the same bits as you. Plus about half the people there had their lightsabers so it was like a cool light show too!
Like I say, I've booked in from the Monday 21st leaving on the tuesday 29th (wasn't sure what time the Monday would wrap up). Am booked in at the Figoeroa and am realllllly excited!!!

Another marathon would be nice, but from what I've been told there is a big UK convention planned for next year (post C4) but I do now seriously doubt whether this will happen at all now. It would be great if it did happen becaue it would be a lot cheaper for me
But the experience just wouldn't be quite the same and that's what makes it for me.

Exactly, its the whole atmosphere that gets you.
May turn it into a two week holiday anyway, and stop off at vegas for a few days and perhaps Philly on the way home.

We are in the Figueroa too! We attended Celebration III last year and although I didn't attend Marathon Day, I was at the Odeon at the UK Premiere instead!

Like I said probably here and elsewhere, at the mo I am out of work, but a lot can change in a year. My aim is to be there, I would be seriously gutted if I missed CIV, having been to CIII and know a little of what to expect.
Tethys and Phantom_Jedi - unless I have to move to get a job, I'll be flying from Manchester So you both recommend the Hotel Figueroa?

A Moroccan themed hotel ... looks very nice   The Siggraph page says the hotel is about $98-136 (per night I presume, at an estimate that is £58-80 per night, on a £1=$1.7 conversion - average conversion) for the regular guest rooms and $170 (£100) for the suites.

Is the convention center on the bottom left of that map, the actual CIV convention center? I'll check. They don't seem to do online booking via the official website and there are no prices lists on there either, but they have contact info.

Only a short walk up the road to be honest with you.
Just had a read up about the hotel online it sounds like the owner is rude.

Now I don't know about you but isn't that a tad sarcastic? As if to say, it's not as if you are flying in tomorrow. If that's what they meant then is this a bad reflection of their customer service?
I have emailed the figeuroa again to ask exactly what they meant, and am awaiting a reply and my confirmation email and number. I'll update as soon as I get a result.
Just be wary guys (and gals!)

I saw a lot of online posts from booking sites which said the owner was rude. There is a problem with what to believe -
There is no contact details for the said posters, so we have no way of knowing are the genuine or not -
Could it be local rival hotels posting as annoyed customers
Someone who has issues with the hotel, over something that the hotel did right in the first place, and the poster is being unreasonable (see below)
Intelligence of the reviewer - always a hard one to determine, but then some said some really daft things - like an incident where someone slipped in a bathtub being used as a shower (the hotel had provided a bath mat), and then told the owner why would they use a bath mat. Because it's common sense. That said the owner could have been more understanding, but I guess they feared compensation claim for something the average traveller understands as a simple thing.
Having said that, the Holiday Inn is a well known brand, and we should expect ok service from them at least, but then again, that Moroccan stuff is looking nice! Hmmm, not sure.

Well I will be booking the holiday inn, my friend she is booking in the wiltshire and I will see what gencon has to offer.
I know the morrison hotel nearby (yes is the album cover for one of the doors albums) have had the law book thrown at them for insect infestation and also other health and safety issues like locking fire exit doors and not enough of them in the building, they treat things like this pretty serious that the owner may end up doing time for it.
