I thought this was them at the Starfleet Academy? So, shouldn't they all be early 20's at the very most?

Yeah, but:

A) They didnt all get together untill on the enterprise, and not at first even. Took quite awhile for all those crew memebers to be on the ship at the same time.

B) They arnt all the same age. There are some big age gaps between the crew members. Chekov is 10 years Kirks junior, which I can not see int he casting. Scotty has been in starfleet 20 years prior to being onboard the enterprise.

If Pike is in this film he will be older too. He is in command of the enterprise for 11 years before Kirk is. Bones is slightly younger than Scotty but not by much (a few years)

That means if it is Kirk at the academy (which I think it will be) then they have to find a way of getting people older than him to hang out with him and become best mates. Plus at the academy you are 18 to 21 about, which means people like Chekov will be 10 years old lol

Unless this is a complete reimagining, it cannot work with Kirk at the academy AND have all the crew members.

That's why I'm saying they're totally screwing with continuity. If it's a prequel set before at least, The Corbomite Maneuver (or was it Where No Man Has Gone Before)? then there should be no way Chekov at least should be there. If it's post-Pike era, then maybe, but why don't they look like they did in the Star Trek series.

Still a stupid idea. plain

I think Simon Pegg is great, just not as Scotty.

To be honest, I always thought that Dr Beckett from Stargate Atlantis would make a great younger Scotty.

I agree with our esteemed former RSA. He would've been the more logical choice as well, seeing as how he's Scottish and has that kind of rough, hands on engineer look to him.

I completely agree with all of you Paul McGillion was born to play Scotty and it's just sad he won't. I've been happy with all the casting apart from Pegg and while I like Simon Pegg I just don't see him as Scotty and it make's me really sad. sad sad

Also Karl Urban as McCoy comparison

I'd expect an Urban McCoy to have a beanie hat, baggy jeans half way down to his feet, rap music blaring a lots of gold bling but oh well tongue

But in all seriousness, he does have the right shaped face and structure.

A bit worrying this, especially the rumours regarding the redesign of the Enterprise.

I don't want a new Enterprise but I do like Gabe Koerner's redesigned Enterprise if push comes to shove.

At first glance that looks quite good, it seems to be a natural progression from the NX-01 Enterprise. The sunlight reflecting off the saucer gives the impression of bare metal. Track down a few more of his images/videos though and you may not be so convinced.

I like it, a blend of the modern while harking back to the old.
