Well nobody knows yet whether or not he overdosed on purpose. The last thing I heard was he went to bed after taking some sleeping pills and his anti-depressants and didn't wake up.

I know. I'm shocked. It's a terrible shame as his career held such promise.
I too wondered/hoped about the bad taste marketing ploy.

The autopsy is supposed to be around 6pm UK time, though if they have to do a tox screen there might not be results for up to two weeks. Fox News is saying there is a report that he had pneumonia and was taking drugs for that. Maybe he just mixed some drugs that didn't mix well. They said there was no suicide note found. At this point I'm thinking it was accidental.

I heard about this this morning at work. I thought it was a joke. It still hasn't sunk itn yet, even with all the news stories. And as he was from my part of the world, you can tell that the media went into over-drive. There where at least three stories on each station's news, and then a whole half hour on the current affairs ahow.
BTW, his family found out via the radio. I feel so sorry for them having to hear it that way. And his two-year old daughter Matilda will grow up not knowing who her father was. Poor thing.

Fox News just reported that the autopsy was 'inconclusive', and that it might be 10 days before they have a cause of death.
That is a shame about his daughter. I must admit I didn't know that much about him since Brokeback Mountain didn't really appeal to me so I've never seen it.

It is a real shame. He was establishing himself as a fine actor.
As I understand things he was not sleeping well and needed pills to help him. If he took too many or even combined them with alcohol, it could have caused a serious problem.
He doesn't strike me as the type to have done this on purpose, he had a promising career and had just finished a big movie which I get the impression he enjoyed doing.
I know he had a break up and perhaps didn't get to see his daughter as much as he'd like, so maybe he was depressed.

I also have heard rumour that The Dark Knight release date may be delayed as a result, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. I'll ask my manager at the weekend.

Yeah, the various news channels have been saying he had sleeping problems.
I haven't been following the new Batman film at all. When was it due for release?

Well, he was on anti-depressants so I guess that answers the part about whether he was depressed or not.
The autopsy was "inconclusive". It will take about 10 days to establish cause of death

Damn newspapers, I've read 3 varying stories.
Some say it was his appartment, others say it was not, some say it was his housekeeper who found him, others said it was a masseus.
One article said he had pneumonia aswell, so combining medication for that with depression and sleeping pills may have been the problem.

Hello All,
Very sad and shocking news about Heath Ledger. Its such a shame. I've not seen Brokeback Mountain, but I have seen a lot of his other films and he did prove himself to be a decent actor.
I don't know. I dont feel quite as emotional as I did when River Phoenix died back in 1993 (who at the time was the most promising young actor), but it is very sad news nevertheless.
Its going to feel strange seeing him now as the Joker in Batman. Jack Nicholson has already made that role iconic, but I have a feeling that Ledger will now make it his very own, as everyone will remember this as his last film.

I wonder what they'll do with The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus now?
I suppose it depends on how much they've filmed of it. They may try something like they did with Oliver Reed in Gladiator.
They may simply re-film it, or scrap the production entirely.
