Just heard the sad news that one of the greatest sci-fi authors has passed away aged 90.
For many of us sci-fi nuts, 2001 was (and still is) one of the greatest movies ever made.
Growing up, watching his TV shows really opened my eyes to the world and universe around me.
So please share your thoughts and memories regarding the great man here.

A fine author, 2001 and even it's subsequent sequels were interesting if bizarre ideas, but inspired and well written.
His impact will always stand out.

I heard this on the news last night. Very sad. I think he and Heinlein were probably the two authors that started me out on sci-fi books. R.I.P.

Fantastic writer who successfully merged science and fiction, maintaining reality while pushing scientific boundries. Many authors dip into fantasy rather than strict science-fiction, but his writing was amazing and believable.
Big loss, but his work will live on for a very long time.
Hurry up and make the Rama movie please.

Bloody devasated. Saw this on the BBC homepage last night and just went "noooo". Unfortunately, the only book I've read of his is 2001: A Space Odyssey. I shall have to read more in his memory.
RIP.
