Formula One Racing Switching to BBC

I'm just seeing a news report on BBC News 24 that Formula One Racing will be returning to the BBC from next season. It hasn't been on there since 1996.

Good. No more stupid adverts in the middle of a race.
If only they'd got the champions league rights as well

Well Hal, I don't know whether as Licence fee payers we'd be happy that the Beeb had to pay an extra £10m in subsidies to get those rights.
Still the Beeb is starting to get back on track with sporting events.

I'd prefer they kept the FA Cup rights instead of getting Formula One.
As interesting as it is, watching cars go around the same track usually in the order they start without a break is mind-numbing.
I prefer MotoGP.

MotoGP is rubbish for the simple fact that it's bikes and not ridiculously fast cars.
Glad they've got it, so long as they keep Martin Brundle I'll be happy. Also, get The Hamster to present it and it'll just be made of win.

At least in MotoGp they overtake more and can showboat over the finish line.
I suppose this will work well, not sure which channel they'll air it one though. Shame they didn't use all those subsidies to keep the FA Cup or get the odd premiership game.
Still, it works better then if they'd bought cricket, as good as the sport is the air time it would use up is crazy.

Snooker doesn't normally take a whole day, and they often reduce matches to highlights or have a time limit and then show the rest late night.
The BBC used to do full day cricket coverage.

most boring "sport" ever.
id rather eat a box of cornflakes than watch this dross..the BBC is spending licence payers money of this dross..this is total dross which is boring to watch. hammond is a dross presenter..the "sport" is utter dross. this utterly dross "sport" is dross and i dont see the excitement in seeing a chain of dross cars circle a track for a stupid amount of hours..the most exciting thing is when someone gets hurt (lets not lie here)
utter dross

He has a bit of a point, the crashes are sometimes the most entertaining part.

Oh for sure, the crashes unfortunately are the most entertaining part. However, I love seeing the overtaking, the battling you get throughout the race and it's a load of ridiculously overpowered cars zooming around a track. Wonderful stuff!

There are two types of people in this world.
Those who love Formula 1, and those who are too "dross" stupid to appreciate the most exciting sport in the world.
I'd love it if they kept Martin Brundle, but i'd happily lose James Allen. That guy couldn't read a race if it was typed out in front of him!
It will be great to see F1 back on the BBC, if only for the theme tune alone!
It would also be great to see Murray Walker back. Even though he's well into his eighties, I still think he could make a go of it. There's no reason why he has to travel all around the world too. They could just set up a sallelite studio in his house and have him commentate on it that way.
Anything has got to be better than James "there's a car exploding on the screen, but i'm talking about tyre compounds instead" Allen.
Down the years, ITV has missed some of the most entertaining and important moves in F1 history. Who can foget that classic Hungary race in 97 when Hill passed Schumacher to take the lead in the Arrows, or at least that's what we saw on the bloody replay!
There are a 100 other instances where we've missed the big moves due to watching adverts for Toilet Duck..
So welcome back the BBC. Lets hope they do the coverage proud and actually show the qaulifying this time round!

A shame that overtaking doesn't happen so much anymore. These days whoever starts in pole position usually wins.
I liked the idea that was presented a while back suggesting the slower cars start at the front and the faster at the back, that way we'd see more overtaking instead of cars in time order going round and round until someone pits or has an accident.
