The UK finally has a limited/low key official release of the proper Grindhouse film. I saw it last night and I thought it was great. A truly unique experience well worth seeing just for the heck of it.

The fake trailers are hilarious and worth seeing alone (although Planet Terror is great fun), one of which is directed by Edgar Wright.

This is something you simply have to see at a cinema (none of that downloaded rubbish), so check out your local cinema to see if they have a late show of it this weekend!!

I remember looking forward this so much. Was fuming that they didn't release it as "Grindhouse" in the UK because what was the point in seeing it? Part of the appeal was the double Bill, Grainy-ness and Fake Trailers. The Experience of it bundled was it's appeal. Im glad it's making it's way as grindhouse. Saying that, though, If it's too much of a hassle to travel, etc then I will not go ( seeing as "Death Proof" was abysmal)

We're gonna be showing the double bill at our uni cinema, but we're not allowed to call it Grindhouse or show the fake trailers.

See both films for £2. Bargain.

It's worth the effort Orn. It's such a great experience and you could always leave once Planet Terror and the middle fake trailers have finished wink

Another? That's harsh.

Kill Bill was just about on the right side of that line.

But I agree that QT has been allowed to indulge himself too much with Grindhouse.

Secrecy??? What exactly are you referring to Moylesy as there's not much secrecy about it.

I think the problem with Death Proof is that QT tried making a typical QT film, where as he should have made something more true to Grindhouse. In other words, he made something "over-sophisticated" and far too boring, unlike Planet Terror where Robert Rodriguez got it and made a much better film. As I've said before, worth seeing for the true version of Planet Terror and the fake trailers, then go home once Death Proof starts tongue

I don't know, But I think I disagree to a point. In my eyes, the most typical QT film are his "Gangster-esque" flicks like Pulp, DOGS and Jackie Brown (although Jackie Brown Soooorta hits a genre gimmick which Is what I dislike). I consider Kill Bill and Death Proof to be his gimmick flicks. I suppose it's a matter of taste, and I do respect his approach to something which clearly he is a big fan of ( with the drive in, b movie-ness of "Grindhouse" and the asian, martial arts cinema - Of which I, too, appreciate to an extent).
Aside from that, Death Proof was just technically very, very poor. Even though I'm not essentially a QT fan ( IMO, he's made 2 very good films, 2 decent, and 1 poor film) I do look forward to his films and I hope he returns to his roots soon happy

Secrecy - I was probably referring to the low-key release.

Although he did not direct (but did produce, write and star in) From Dusk till Dawn must be his greatest gimmick movie.
