This is a multi-cultural nation, without foreign workers we would not function.
There are many who come here who are more qualified then those who live here.
I don't agree that a country should change laws to suit the cultures of others, if you live here you should abide by our laws as we would have to do in another nation.
I also don't like rules which allow people here to get benefits for family living overseas.
Seems to me though that these shows are just made to cater to people who are bitter because they're unemployed bums and the people who come over from other countries are better at a job then they are.

We would function quite well actually without any foreign workers. Did you see the news regarding the 50,000 or so workers who came here as part of the HSMP? The Government wanted to re-assess them as a large proportion of them are no longer in (or never were in) highly skilled jobs. They can now get an extension to thier visas even though the doctors, programmers or whatever they called themselves are now serving up balti on a saturday night.

It's not the laws that are changing it's the punishment - If you have two wives then you can break the speed limit, if you are a sex offender then you don't need to attend rehabilitation courses, etc, etc.

Yep, isn't a united Europe a great thing?

Ah, the positive benefits of immigration. Let us not mention increased cases of HIV, TB, benefit swindles, non-payment of tax, prostitution, drug trafficking, rising violent crimes, rising sex crimes, drunken, unqualified and uninsured motoring, undercutting native workers, social housing priority, etc, etc.

We really shouldn't lump all forms of "immigration" in together here. Legal, state supported immigration is one thing. Illegal immigration is another. Asylum is also a form of immigration that is rarely black or white in its complexity.
To imply or suggest that all "immigrants" should bugger off is ridiculous.
Something else to remember is that this country has a rich tradition of immigration. Some through mass migration, invasion, Imperial/Commonwealth rights and privileges, asylum etc.. as well as economic migrants of today.
Lets not forget where the "English" nation originally hails from.........

Managed immigration can be beneficial to the country (remmeber that a lot of people actually leave this country), it's just that this Government has lost control of the situation letting in too many undesirables. If there are highly skilled jobs that need filling then perhaps more should be spent on education?

Excatly !
Why is the govt, getting skilled people oversees when they can improve standards of education in this country. (Obviously Labour over their is cheap)
The thing is doesn't unemployment could = crime in some circumstances to make ends meet ?
ALso there are other factors: Youth crimes
What can the govt/we do to stop kids veering towards and crime and help them to concentrate into education to get more skilled workers.

No point in trying to teach people who don't want to learn.
And since a lot also don't want to work, no harm in having people from abroad who are actually happy to do it.

Problem is that highly skilled-type education is fine, but that highly-skilled, British educated workers can get paid loads more for doing the same job in another country with a lower cost of living. Why stay in the UK when you can move to the US, get a 50%+ pay rise, and enjoy a 50% less cost of living ????
It's called "human capital flight", and its alive and well.

I Blame the employers for selling out thier staff for profit by shipping business abroard.
I Blame the Government for killing off the contractor market in this country.
Richie - You have a point about layabouts and I was not suggesting that they could be trained to become "highly skilled" but there is a need for workers in the building sector. Proper apprenticeships at college* and an end to East European workers undercutting prices would go a long way to solving that.
* - As they have in many European countries. Start training at the age of 14 not 16.

Actually schools in England (not sure about the rest of the UK) have already in place the 14 - 19 agenda where certain pupils study for NVQ based qualifications. These are in areas such as plumbing, mechanical engineering, hair dressing etc... Schools will see an increase in this type of agende involving not just the schools and colleges but local businesses. This will be increased in the next few years.
Many "immigrants" are identifying a gap in the market and going for it. Fair play to them I say. There are plenty of work shy Brits who are happy to moan that "immigrants" are taking their jobs but are themselves unwilling to do the work. I don't blame the "immigrants" for this one bit. I have experienced this first hand.

And about time too, although other countries have had this system in place for several years.
