a mate of ours,craig,is keen to put on a little star wars fan show,not a convention in any way,no guests or signings,or any of that old flannel.
he just wants to do something about the fans,
so,to that end,here's what i know,and what's been discussed.
it'll probably be held in some community centre in croydon,some time in august,on a saturday,there will be screenings of some vintage and rare super-8 film reels throughout the day,some amazing displays of incredible lego models-trust me,these are real works of art,and many of them not from the box,so to speak.
there will be displays of star wars toys,and a play area for children to make their own star wars adventures... and the chance to take part in either role play events,or table top battle strategy games,or probably both.
and of course,a star wars art show,a display of star wars fan art,with the opportunity for children to take part in drawing and colouring in competitions.
and lastly,a star wars fancy dress competition,with some great prizes,strictly for the under-12s,so that discounts you,timbolton before you go and dig out your ewok costume!
we're hoping for something different to all the current shows and events slowly becoming more and more corporate in their running.
it's going to be a fans celebration,bringing it back to a simple fun level.
hopefully.
this event will be supported by coverage in the local press,and i'm hoping the local media.
hey,if halibut can get his ugly mug on gmtv...

Great idea! I love the idea of kid competitions. The littl'uns are often ignored at conventions and the like. A fun family-oriented experience.

obviously,we will take every precaution with regards to health and safety,well-being,etc.

Great idea to make it more family-orientated and away from the "what can we sell you?" brigade. I only hope that you can get enough punters to make it worth while.

thanks,guys... we really appreciate your comments.
it's not really my baby,as i said it was a mate of mine,craig,who is the brains behind the idea.
we'll make a proper announcement when things are more finalised,and when they come up with a name for the event.
personally i like 'celebration croydon',but it is being met with some resistance at the moment.
