BBC Story

Just saw this on BBC's Breaking News crawl.

Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter has died aged 78.

Pinter, who had been suffering from cancer, died on Christmas Eve, his wife has confirmed.

He wrote more than 30 plays including The Caretaker and The Birthday Party. His film scripts include The French Lieutenant's Woman.

I always found his stuff to be a bit dull.

Some people find Shakespeare dull, but not does not change the fact he is a genius and very great at what he did.

Likewise with Pinter.
He even had a term named after him - Pinteresque

RIP rose

He's turning in his grave right now.

As a "thespian", I find his works particularly dull and uncreative. But the guy certainly made a mark in the industry and he had a good innings. It's shame he didn't make Christmas, but it's not too much to get sad about.

I've seen his grave, not sure there's much room for turning.

Anyway, he should be happy that he has influenced the world so much and has praise for it.

But in the case of Pinter, what makes one great?
Many greats were not particularly popular in their time (composers/artists) and some were/are renoundly unpleasant people.
But that is not to say that their work is not any good, just that it might not be recognised immeadiately.

Can I suggest that for the New Year that we just have one "RIP" thread?

Nah, that would reduce the current number of threads by about 50%

Plus there would be the hassle of having to bump it up every time, posting a new one is a lot easier.
