I just got home from the charity premiere, and I feel the need to post something because of the intense rush of emotions I'm feeling, but you'll have to forgive my typing/grammar errors because I'm still crying even now, a half-hour later.

I've never in my life experienced the level of emotions and intense feelings that I'm having right now. There are not words tyhat could possibly do justice to how powerful this film is. The moment the credits rolled, I had to get up and out of the theater, and I didn't get ten feet out the door before I began sobbing uncontrollably. Tears had been rolling since ten minutes before the end, but after it was done I felt the huge wave of emotion overwhelming me and I didn't want to start bawling in front of a bunch of strangers, so I had to book. I had to sit in my car for a good ten minutes before I could compose myself enough to actually drive.

I don;t know if part of my feelings right now are related to the fact that this was THE LAST ONE, but I can honestly say that I have never been as moved or affected by any other piece of art as I've been by ROTS. All the raving and shining reviews don't do justice to this film by a long shot. I'm a little crazy and out of my mind right now, but I think it might be the best one. I know, you'e all crying "HERESY!", but it really is that good.

Ian McDiarmid is going to get many, many awards for this film; he steasl every scene he's in, and whatever more I'd try to say about his performace would be totally extreme understatement. He's a god, now, in my mind...

I need to call someone right now, because I'm so choked up and I need to vent to someone that will understand what I mean.

ps~~ An interesting side-note: I sat no less than 12 feet away from Carrie Fischer and her MOM (!), Debbie Reynolds. They were 2 rows back and 4 seats over from me. Totally awesome.

Wow, Zack that's a really powerful experience you had! I hope that I don't cry too much when I go to see it. I'm sure I'll be sheilding my face a few times though.

That's so awesome man.

And you deffinately shouldn't feel ashamed about crying. I know I plan on bawling my eyes out. I've heard so much good about this movie I truly can't wait. If only GL had made the other two as good. sad .

Wow! That sounds amazing.

I couldn't get tickets, but I was in the area last night. I was having ice cream at Cold Stone in Cleveland Park last night around the time the movie ended. I saw you all walking out with your goodie bags. Most weren't crying, but the expressions on your faces said it all to me! Everyone looked like they were in the best mood in the world. I was sooooo jealous, but am also more excited than ever for this movie. It truly will be an amazing experience.

Zach, we've heard exactly the same thing from a number of people who saw the charity show. Bruce, Laura, and I were down there to guage people's responses as they were coming out of the theater. I saw nothing and heard nothing but positive responses.

I am sorry we missed you! Bruce and Laura were dressed in their costumes from "Jedi." We hung around the line people and took photos and everything. It was almost as much fun as if we had seen the movie ourselves.

Powerful review there Zack!!
As "That Crazy Old Wizard" mentioned, we were down there last night to gauge reactions and everyone coming out of the theater seemed most impressed! I cannot wait to see this film!!!
I was hoping we'd run into you, but we did see some other folks that we knew and they were totally blown away as well.

5 days and counting...

Zak, I'm jealous because you obviously were able to afford to go, and willing to shell out $250+ to do so. I'm so broke right now, I can't even pay attention! cry

But don't you dare feel bad about thinking it was the best one. I'm one of the rare few members of this group (or is that the only one? worried ) that LOVES the prequels and DOESN'T sit around endlessly griping about how much they suck! tongue

Then again, over the last decade or so, I've found myself REALLY powerfully drawn to the SF and fantasy of the Golden Age, the era when the pulps reigned supreme, when stuff like E.E. "Doc" Smith's Lensman saga (THE inspiration for all space opera to come, including Star Wars!) and Robert E. Howard's Conan tales were being written. My love for the pulp era of SF and fantasy has resulted in a love of SF and fantasy movies (and comics and books and video games) that the public at large generally pans, stuff such as Dungeons & Dragons (the movie), Sin City (although that one IS actually getting the acclaim it deserves, which surprised the heck out of me!), The Phantom, The Rocketeer, and too many others to remember off the top of my head. Even though it's more rightfully cyberpunk, I even enjoyed the heck out of Johnny Mnemonic, because I had read William Gibson's stories that it was based on and thought it was a very good attempt at bringing his imagined future to life on the big screen. And yes, this means that I also love the Star Wars prequel trilogy every bit as much as the original trilogy. I'm just so in tune with the whole pulp/space opera storytelling style, that I just eat it up! grin

And if that makes me a "weirdo" amongst current Star Wars fans, so be it. tongue

I also think, In My Humble Opinion, that the real reasons so many fans hated the prequels are 2 things:
1) They spent 16 years (or more) working out their own personal back stories for the saga, and then were crushed when Lucas' official version didn't match up to theirs. doh!
2) They've forgotten to keep alive their inner child, the part of themselves that thrilled to Star Wars the first time they saw it, many years ago. shame_on_you

Sadly, those were 2 very big mistakes on their parts, ones I'm glad to say I didn't make! wink

*Ducks all the incoming hurled objects!* mischief

At any rate....
is it Wednesday yet? confused

Well, I can say that I can happily keep my personal back stories and the actual movies completely separate and I enjoy them both.

I liked the prequels. They weren't the original, mind you, but I still liked them. I just think that the OT, particularly ANH and ESB, had a kind of magic to them that I don't see as much in the prequels, but that doesn't stop me from still ejoying them. It's when things get a little overbloated with CGI at the cost of the story at times that I start to gripe. Fortunately, I don't think that we'll have this problem with ROTS.

Dan funny you should mention Conan, my husband was a big collector of the comic back in the early 80s. I think that he must have all the original Conan comics, including the first issue. You two ought to chat about that Wednesday night, he'll be with me at the tailgait and movie.

Me? It's officially Zach, but sometimes I'll write "Zak" just to feel like a teenager again... grin grin grin

This may sound kinda strange, but I'm almost more nervous about seeing ROTS for the second time than I was for the first time. Before, my pre-movie feelings were raw excitement; I was totally stoked, hyped-up, and ready to have my mind blown.

Now, I'm nervous because either I'll get all mental or weepy again (and subsequently get teased by my girlfriend, but that isn't something I'm entirely unaccustomed to), or (and this would be way worse) it won't affect me the same way and I'll feel hollow inside. I've really started to think that maybe a significant part of my psychotic episode last Thursday night was the fact that it was the absolute last time I will ever see a SW movie for the first time. Not to detract from how powerful and emotionally profound the film truly is... ...I just think that it's possible that my very-real emotional reaction to the film's content was amplified by the experience of seeing it for the first time --and knowing that a huge part of my life has now been completed.

It's not as if all these possibilities and ideas hadn't occured to me before going to the theater, they had. I just hadn't psychologically prepared myself for the extent of it all...

Just bear in mind Zach that usually the second viewing can be richer than the first in the sense that you'll start to catch things that you missed the first go around. I still think you'll be quite excited in viewing it again, but this second viewing might just more deep for you.

Thanks for clearing the name thing up, Zak! :-) As for whether or not your reaction was tied up in this being the last new Star Wars movie, it's possible...more than likely too, but I am sure that some of it was a relief that the movie was good.

I agree that you'll probably enjoy this viewing just as much, in a different way. No emotional issues...you'll just get to relax and see what you may have missed the first time.
