Hi All,
I moved to the area in August from Charleston SC to finish my Phd at Catholic. I'm a lifelong SW fan and would love to meet up with other SW fans in the area. My classmates and students all think I'm nuts when I start talking about SW so I'd love to chat with others who understand my SW obsession.

Hey there JS. Welcome to the neighborhood. I don't think any of us are quite sure when our next meeting's going to be, but we will be up at Farpoint in February, and we'll probably have a meeting then. It's a bit of a drive (about an hour or so from DC), but it's pretty easy to get to (virtually all highway). Check out our Farpoint thread which I may have to create since I don't think we have one yet. We should be getting details ironed out there.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll definitely consider heading to Farpoint. I actually live 1/2 way between DC and Baltimore so it should be easy to get to. I've been to other cons like Dragoncon and ConCarolinas in the past, so I'm looking forward to more of the same here, although I must confess that since I can't sew, costuming is pretty much out for me. Looking foward to meeting up with you soon.

Hi Jedi Scholar! Please join us any time you feel like it - and jump in to the conversations too! It's nice to see that we'll continue to not have anyone from DC itself hanging out with us. If you make it to Farpoint, just look for Amish Star Wars folks, or a man with a plushy Cthulhu in a baby carrier. I try to post a meeting time on these boards before we go, but we usually don't decide until the schedule comes out.
I'll try to come up with a January meeting date now that I have a calendar and hopefully you can make it.

Speaking of Cthulhu, please let him know that Yoda has decided to join in the fun and come to Far Point.
Of course now he tells me he wants an Amish costume.

Amish SW fans??? Intriguing this is...I'm afraid I dress in basic black and am your standard issue academic geek. I'll try to stop by and join in the conversation from time to time as my crazy schedule permits and when I don't have too many student essays to grade (ugh--hate that part of my life..) But I was excited to find out that two of my students this term are SW fans. Always like it when that happens!!!!

Only 2? You need to convert the rest
We're not acually Amish (that'd be interesting, how would we post on the internet?) But we do crazy group costumes, and that's the latest idea

Won't this be the first group costume we actually do? We do come up with great ideas though.
And I say, give the two geek students extra points for working SW into their papers.

I always reward SW fans!!!! Last term I gave them extra points if they could find the online SW journal I submit papers to. Three of them found it. In class yesterday, we were sharing information and I told them what a SW freak I was. This was in response to questions about my recent publications. When I told them I wrote about Anakin and the Sin of Despair, they asked if we could read that instead of some of the essays that are assigned for the class. I told them I'd consider it. Last term, I showed them a movie (always popular with students), and they were bugging me to watch Sith instead. I would have complied if I could have thought of a way to work it into the course requirements. I teach Composition and Rhetoric so it's difficult to work in literature and movies anyway.
There is hope though. We have a class at CUA called the Literature of Fantasy which would be great for SW as well as traditional stuff like Beowulf, Arthur, and Tolkien. I've been slowing working my boss over to the idea of letting me have that class where I can address all sorts of wonderful SW things. My boss is a SW fan so there's hope....Not sure if I'll need to use Jedi mind tricks, but I'm considering it...

And I second the cry, where were teachers like you when I was in school?
Of course, I didn't study literature or rhetoric.
