SJ, if you ever get permission to start a class like that, PLS let us know. I'm sure we'd be the first ones to sign up for the class -- regardless if we attend the university or not.
However, you must also include Harry Potter and C.S Lewis into your discussion topics. But a class totally devoted to the Star Wars mythos would be awesome too! Of course you could also include Dragonlance or any book involving magic and then do a comparison of Magic vs the Force.
Hmmm, too many ideas!

Actually,
CUA has a course that encompasses everything you wrote about. It's called the Literature of Fantasy and it's offered every term. The individual instructor can decide what the format will be. This term starts with Beowulf, moves through Gawain and the Green Knight and will also feature vampires, including Buffy. I'm low-man on the totem pole, so I have to beg,etc to get that class. Until then, I have to teach freshman composition.... However, I always manage to throw SW in somehow. Speaking of which, if you are interested in some academic pondering about SW, head over to a website called Sagajournal. The link is in my sig. Of course, I'm shamelessly self-promoting the site because I'm on the staff, but there really are some interesting articles there. Oh and before I forget...I got an email from a prof at Bowie State in MD who will be teaching a pop culture class in the Fall that will heavily feature SW. If anyone is interested, I'll ask him for more information...
