Oh, and one more advice: The more you think about the costume and the more you speak with people, the more ideas you get and finally you know how you want to do it.

What is your main problem? The fabrics? Or where to get the cut-sheme (term?)?
And did you look at Costume&Props already? Did you found anything helpful?

Go to costumes and props. Someone there can steer you to where you can find patterns for your costume, Amanda. I did mine the lazy way and paid someone to make mine.

I did and managed to find some guidelines for it. I'm gonna wait until my sister comes to visit to actually try to make it...as I'd rather have someone more experienced in sewing helping me out so yeah I'm calling in the cavalry-my mom, my sister, and myself.

It seems so, Lanna/Etain. 
Sounds like a good plan, Amanda. And it's worth a lot if you have a pattern. I had to do mine without anything and sometimes I wished I would have a pattern at least for the top.
