I don't think Dutch and German sound similiar at all.
The Dutch sound like they have something permanantely lodged into their throats (no offense meant to anyone). And it's a harsh language whereas German isn't.
German seems sort of fluent and how the words are pronounced makes sense.
Just my two cents.

Actually I would love to know how German sounds for foreign people (Dutch, English, Spanish etc). For me it sounds fluent and maybe a little bit hard at times, but soft when spoken by other people as well. Means, I'm too used to it.

I've heard a German couple not too long ago and they were asking me for directions. I gave them all my money, and my watch I find at times he sounded like he was angry. His wife/Girlfriend had to explain that it was their way of speaking. I believe they asked for directions to a historical site which many tourists love to come and visit around here.

Amanda - I did pohskapforian already, and though only Thrawn knows at the moment, with interesting results. And maybe you should ask the wook some questions about Csilla, Chiss and Cheunh... But be warned, that site is a timekiller, SO distracting... 
*lol* And I always thought German sounded harsher than Dutch. 
And about the writing making sense when pronouncing, and English speaking person should be very careful there. English is making the least sense, it is far from consistent: lookee here

I personally think English makes more sense than German. It's easier to speak, imo.
Maybe I'm biased, though, since I started speaking English before German. *shrugs*

yeah I read that part. You definitely got Thrawn attention with that. anyway I will probably read through all the Chiss related stuff throughout the day. I just love Chiss stuff.  and I blame you for it Lanna. but that is ok but also means I must do this...

If you forget an appointment with your dentist you are to pay a fine. But if you are in pain than you get an appointment month later... argh! I hate this country. It is full of weird laws and rules, I come to experience piece by piece.

So, I can't visit friends in Germany in July now, because I do not have the money to travel really.
