That's really annoying. 
I just remember when I was ten minutes late for an appointement once and the first time ever. I asked if that matters, because normally I have to wait about 30-90min. with an appointement anyway. They said 'no', but they kept me waiting for 3 hours! And the doctor wasn't really friendly to me as well.
At least I didn't had to pay anything extra...
But I don't get it, that you have to wait a whole month before you get anything done, if it's an emergency. I mean, if your teeth hurts, it won't get less and even medicine doesn't really help. It's even more work for the dentist. So, what's the reason?

That is entirely due to your dentist, and not due to the country, Nicole. If I were you I'd find a new dentist because that sounds awful! Emergencies always come inbetween with any dentist I know...Mine especially. (And I could know, lol, since I've been there, done that, about 20 times when I had the darned glued in tooth. xD) I'd really look into getting a different dentist, because this is unacceptable and should not happen. Yes Eindhoven is big, i.e. a lot of people on one dentist, but this doesn't happen in Groningen either!
Though the fines are due to the country, and I think they're great  Serves people right. I can't tell you how many times I had to wait because someone forgot their appointment. Cancel 24 hours in advance, I hate it when people force others to wait. I fully support those fines ^^ *banner*
edit: Those stars are hidious. -_- Lame.

I think, that's one of the reason why doctors usually don't force you to pay something for being late  They could get in lot of trouble for being late themselves

Ooooh, look, stars! I like the stars.
I've never had troubles with my dentist. I've never really had problems with my teeth either.
But I hated my doc who was supposed to be treating me due to a stupid thing called "Graves' disease". Doesn't that just sound peachy?

Not too bad though, if the Doc had immidiately diagnosed correctly. I'll have to take medication all my life now.  And there's a Radioiodine treatment I have to go through this year. A whole week in the hospital, behind a thick glass wall, all alone. Meh.
But then I'll have to read and write and that's a good thing.

Is it just me or are doctors just idiots when it comes to diagnosing diseases like that??
My first OB/gyn said I was just whining! It took me more than a year to get a diagnosis and I, too, am on lifelong medication. Some doctors are just idiots. They always seem to think you're "whining" or "it's all between the ears" when there's not something obviously wrong. //pet peeve. I feel your pain when it comes to that 
;_; PAIN. Rat climbing into my leg. I love him very much, but he weighs almost 700 grams so ouch. (But he made up for it by giving kisses *_* He knows which buttons to press.)

I have a friend, who awhile back was having stomach pains, he goes to the doctor and they told him it was nothing. Later that day he was in a lot of pain, and I mean a lot. He went back to the doctor and they found out that it was his appendix, and it was close to bursting. Now he doesn't trust doctors.

I've never trusted doctors. no one knows my body better than I do and doctors often get things wrong anyways. between my sister and myself I pretty much know what's wrong whenever there is anything wrong

Yep, in France the health service is ok but starts to fall apart, because they lack nurses, places and money... Is costs too much so the last governments reduced the budget, it is seriously going to be worse and worse very soon... probably to be like in the UK a few years ago or the US. Man, that sucks.

Oh...
The German NHS is ok so far, but they reduce the budget and examinations all the time and it get worse as well. It's said that the German one is still gooed, but some parts need an improvement already. Especially the budget for doctors. There are too less at the hospital and those who are there are working too much. Hopefully the government find something else to save money. Health isn't anything to be tight-fisted.
