Azure - that's a wonderful attitude. I remember asking someone who had been through horrific tragedy (fire, multiple family deaths) how they managed to go on. She said "look for the rainbows...look for the rainbows." Great advice.
My husband pays quite a bit to add me on to his company insurance. I shouldn't complain because it would be far worse without it, but we got smacked with a $700 copay for a recent trip to the ER. The problem here is that even with managed care, it still seems like a band-aid costs $100 if a doctor prescribes it. Same with prescription meds unless they are generic, which many aren't. But at least I have access. I've heard the horror stories as well

Seems like Germany's health system isn't all that bad compared to what everyone's describing here. Health insurance is mandatory over here. If you're unemployed the government takes over the insurance. Of course there are some exceptions but ususally everyone's health insured over here.
The cost for birth control pills vary. My three month pack costs almost 35 Euros, which I don't mind paying because I wouldn't be too fond of the alternative. I love kids, love my daughter to death but I don't have nerves of steel. So no more kids for me.
I can't help but wonder how some parents make it through the day staying sane with two or more kids. *shrugs*
So I guess the Germans shouldn't be complaining about the health system, or the social system in general. But it's come to my attention that that's what Germans just love doing: complaining . While watching the news the other day I noticed. Verrrrrry annoying.
I try not to watch the news anyway. Did anyone read/watch the news concerning what's going on in Africa? Robert Mugabe...someone should shoot that guy.

Yep, my whole family is involved in the healthcare industry and it's one of those industry's that is expanding faster than it can be handled. I don't think anyone knows what to do because you don't want to pour limitless amounts into it, but at the same time, you don't want people to die. It's a mess, and it's going to take more than a few presidents and decades before we figure out how to get it to work here in America without bankrupting us.
Anyway, thought I'd give a shout out to Jedi_Daniel and the rest who might remember me. Been a while since I've posted, but I thought I would come back for a few days while the board wide party is going on!

* Azure back *
Hi Sithy, long time no see.
Thanks Skiara. If I didn't live at home helping my parents, I wouldn't be able to manage everything. While I was out of work for nearly a year, I ended up having to borrow $400 from my dad to pay bills for May and June.
I'll get insurance on the 16th of this month. Between my medical and dental(vision is included with the medical) it will cost me about $28 per week.
If I go to the ER, I only pay $75.
I have to stay in the hospital for a while, I only pay $200.
Doctor visit cost me $15.
Meds cost $9, $15 or $25 depending on what it is. Most are the first two though.
Go to the dentist for a regular check up(x-rays, cleaning, ect...) I pay nothing(after the first $25).
Most major dental work they cover 80% of the cost.
Vision: I can get new glasses every 12 months paying only $10 for the exam and $25 for materials.
If I get hurt and can't work for more than 90 days, I will be payed $1,473 a month.

*looks at solar very amuzed!*
I wish my money problems would desolve into nothing as well, but the point is: keep on smiling, teaching and living. And my future parents-in-law told me NOT to worry too much about the wedding guest list, even though DU has armies of uncles, aunts and cousins with their partners.
*hugs DG back, agrees with ceillean about the nice German health system, wonders if sithly can travel to Eindhoven on the 13th october for a wedding, thanks katriene and remembers washington*
But folks, I need to be off now, because I have important matters to attent to: posting my confirmation letter to university, fetch the new school books directly from that very far away school, getting a new Dutch train reduction card, giving a friend some smurfs she asked for, visiting DU at university and shopping some groceries.

Nice to see you again. It's a long time ago. How have you been?
*waves at everyone else*
Sorry for my shortness, but I'm not feeling well (yep, because of what a doctor just said about payments etc) and have to clear up everything first.

AzureAngel2 posted: At present I try to live from my student grant of 800 Euro a month and with my new teaching position I will have about 950 Euro left per month after the tax is off. I did NOT really improve...
For a year, my husband and had to live with 500-600 euros a month. Not each, together. I was a student, that was my student grant plus the evening classes I coud give. My husband was unemployed, looking for his first job and was too young to get the usual financial helps fo unemployed people ; we also had rent, bills, etc. Fortunately after this difficult year he eventually found a job, and I finished my studies to become a teacher, and our income got 6 times bigger. It's long, it's hard, but we have to hold on and not think too much about the money problems. Depression does not make you richer

Because otherwise you are looking at paying thousands of dollars. When I spent the night in the hospital a couple of years ago for chest pains, the bill for the one night was over $1,000 but I only had to pay $200.

As Gangrenous says, Insurance makes a usually very high price much lower. That's why always hear horror stories about the bills of people who died when not having insurance.

Yeah, certainly has been a long time. Probably a few years now, but I've been doing a lot of Music and college applications, etc. Finally done with all that and just waiting out the summer before I start. What about you?

So you're going to college now? To which one?
My life is good at the moment, although I had to sort out some trouble yesterday, but I made it, so everything's fine again.

Well that's good to hear. I hope you're feeling ok! Sounds like some health stuff from the posts.
I'm going to the University of Cincinnati in Ohio to the College-Conservatory of Music. I'm majoring in Music Education, so it should be fun. This school is like, one level below Julliard and such. There is like Julliard-Curtis-Eastman, and than the next ones down are like, Michigan, Indiana University, Boston Conservatory, USC, and UC-CCM. Great place! I can't wait. I have orientation this coming Monday/Tuesday.
