Pming someone isn't against the forum rules. Of course not!
Just if you start insulting someone through PM or send out spam-PMs (naming just two examples), it will be handeled like if you have posted such an insult or posted spam.
If this worries you now, which wasn't my intention, I can ease you as well. As long as you behave friendly, you can't do much wrong and the mods are friendly as well. So no need to worry. Be just the one you are and everything's fine.

In response to your other thread, there are two places for Metal on the JC:
The Metaltropolis, in the Amphitheatre. More for in-depth stuff in a social setting.
Metal Warriors, in the JCC. Newer and slightly more active than the 'Trop (which has been around for about 3 and a half years in its current incarnation, though about 4 years in total because we hijacked the Cradle of Filth thread and turned it into a general Metal topic).
The 'Trop could definitely do with some fresh ideas and perspectives, so give them a go
