The RPF is a “show us” type of forum, and you need to earn your wings before you will be taken seriously. The number one complaint I get from oldbies regarding new users is that they don’t want to be taught, and have “chips on their shoulders.” While this can go for any other forum on the internet, it bears repeating. As a new user, respect the norms and social structures of the boards you visit. Unlike other boards where you can be considered a “newb” for a long time, the RPF carries a pretty dependable guarantee that if you work hard and play by the book, you’ll find your e-status improved considerably. Coming in antagonistic, and taking a GM’s ruling angrily and/or personally will get you branded as a pariah very quickly. The RPF is a welcoming board, but it is a professional one as well. I think I might add some useful experience here. As I am one of those guys who came here with a little experience and I actually know people who came here with a lot . . . So, I hate talking about me, so I´ll talk about my best friend and long time roleplayer LordTroepfchen. Nowadays almost always called LordT. LordT was dragged into RPF by his friends who were playing here. LordT had his experience in RPing. Pen&Paper began when he was twelve ( He is way over thirty, these days. I can only tell from the tales told me, as I was to young to know back then). He was sort of an internet pioneer. LordT was member of the first chatgroups doing "it" back in the days of IRRC chats. He later was the founder of the first website based SWgame in Germany in the mid-ninties. It worked pretty well for almost 8 years. He played all his life, even he had a few breaks when Real Life interrupted. When he arrived here I think the guys considered olbies around here were partially not even born when he had begun playing. HE NEVER MENTIONED IT WITH A WORD. I mean it. Not even to those he knew. I think it simply never came up. He joined a game. Took a few characters nobody wanted to play and began posting. They were amazing. In the beginning he kept within´his own small circle, soon he broadend his interaction and players wrote to him asking if it wouldn´t be cool if . . . When the time came to do some holiday GMing for the Head-GM he was there and did it without great problems. He won Awards for that short term. Two. A guy in the boards for less than a year. Why? People around here accept dedication and quality. And with quality I don´t mean you need to write like Charles Dickens, but you write with enthusiasm and without disturbing others people stories. Quality is something a player possess, not his posts. Just become part of it! Making it a better game because of your presence. Making it a better expereince for everyone. And yourself. People around here respect that, they do appreciate it and you will soon find yourself to be player in high demand. And with soon I mean weeks. Not months. He later went on and became my Co-GM. In the sequel. Another award. Today he had less time for RPing, but he is still around. Doing smaller roles in some games. He got a good reputation. Has his own ressource-forum-club-thingy where RPing in general is discussed. And when he opens a game people float him with submissions . . . I think even today nobody knows HOW long he played this games. But LordT is respected for his part of the games he has been in. His `07 registy date is not a topic anymore.
