I thought I'd start a new thread, seeing as our conversation got halted.
So, inspired by the Donner original, directed by the director of two of the best X-Men movies and shot entirely in Asutralia, I think this film is going to be the 2nd best comic book film of the year (V for Vendetta taking 1st place).
Anyway, thought I'd share some pics from the set:
The Fortress of Solitude, under construction.
And a shot of one of the newspapers:
I have a few more I may post, and if I can find out how to link co-ordinates in Google Earth, the Daily Planet and War Memorial park sets are clearly visible still.
If everyone hasn't already seen them, I'm sure the links for all the trailers can be easily found.

I am pleased to see the Kryptonian set has more or less been retained. And that little crystal thing that Lex is holding at one stage does look a lot like Clark's "key" from the original movie...

Dude- Singer has show total respect to Donner.
AS Sithy said, he got his blessing first too. Apparantly as a gesture for doing so, Richard Donner gave Singer access to the unused footage of Marlon Brando that was cut out of Superman II by the Salkinds after Brando's courtcase against them.
That's why you see Kal-El talking to Lara, rather than Jor- El in all the sequels.
Has anyone got wind of the rumour that a new boxset featuring all of the Superman films will feature the infamous "Donner Cut" of Superman II.
I've longed to see the superior version of Superman II ever since Richard Lester tore down a little sign saying "Verisimilitude" on the Superman set!

IMO, they couldn't have made a Superman film without referencing Donner and Reeve's work.
Reeve's owend that character, and while there have always been different intepretations of other characters, Superman has always been Superman. Even in the Elseworlds series of comics, he's basically been the same character, just a different set of circumstances.
To be honest, he's fairly 2 dimensional. It takes a talented writer to put a unique angle on him.

It makes me feel safe to kow that Bryan Singer is out there making movies.
It makes me cringe to think that Brett Ratner could have helmed the new Superman film. Even That moron McG.
This film can't go wrong. I would bet everything I own on it.

Right, I haven't seen Donner's Supes 2 in some time, so let's review the state of play as it was: by the end of the film, Supes had reversed the Leech chamber inside the Fortress of Solitude, thus depriving Zod, Ursa, and the big other guy of their powers (presumably using gold kryptonite radiation or something like it.) and tossing them down into an icy crevasse to Certain Death. Lex Luthor was back under arrest. Lois Lane knew Clark's secret identity, but he used superhypnotism to wipe the memory from her mind--and I seem to remember that he'd used one of his vision powers to blow up the Fortress. Is that about the size of it?

Certainly seems promising. I haven't seen many new films lately since I'm kinda tired of 3 out of every 4 films being a remake or adaptation but this one could be worth it.
By the way, anyone know why that other thread was locked? Last post in there was mine and I could't seen anything terribly controvercial in there. Maybe it was closed because the original purpose of organising a meet had been served but I thought the discussion which followed was interesting.

Probably best to ask Nat, I'm sure it could be unlocked if she was asked.
Saint, Supes didn't destroy his fortress in the 2nd film, although it was a bit of a mess after his consoles blew up when he gave up his powers and after the fight with the criminal Kryptonians.
As has been said, with Singer at the helm, this has promise. I've also been lucky enough to have seen some of this filmed. What I saw was pretty cool and very Superman.
