I can only afford my halls fees because I have a loan that covers most of it and my parents pay the rest. 
Any job would be good, just as long as I'm not poor.

Yeah, I have a friend who moved over to the UK recently, says the job market over there is horrible. He's coming back basically because there's better opportunities here. Which I found surprising, thought there was a bigger IT market over there.
I'm working myself, but unless I do overtime I never have enough money to do much. And I'm just starting to try and save for a deposit for a home loan (that's scary). Something that's practically impossible to do solo these days, or very hard without 2 incomes. But I'll give it a shot. Worst thing that can happen is they can say no.
I'm lucky to be in the same unit I've been in for 7 years while studying/job-hunting, and the rents only gone up $40 a week since then. Still much lower than all the units around me.

It's OK. It's hard to live on your own and pay the mortgage, etc. And then there's talk of the interest rate going up again next month...

Taxes I can live with, student loans however . . 
It's costing me six and a half thousand pounds a year to do this degree!
