Well, the Olympic torch was officially lit today in Olympia. That means that the Olympics are coming around soon again! What's everybody looking forward to? Anyone get tickets for events? I really like the track portion, especially the dashes. Basketball and swimming are another two of my favorites to watch.
Contrary to most people I speak to, I'm really looking forward to it. I haven't managed to get any tickets yet (save for a football one - but they can't seem to give those away), but am still working on it.
I freaking love the Olympics. Looking forward to basketball, swimming, some track, gymnastics, and well .. you know, pretty much anything they'll show on TV. Double if the US has a semi-decent chance to medal. I'll probably catch some of the soccer matches (especially if MLS veteran David Beckham gets the call-up), but with a sad heart. When is the opening ceremony?
The evening of the 27th July. Friday. BST. We're gonna be flooded with coverage here. I think the BBC is planning to show everything live. And I'm not even kidding. EDIT: The football ticket I have is for Mexico vs. Switzerland and Great Britain vs. Uruguay. Cardiff, both men's. If Beckham is picked for the Great Britain squad, I might see him play.
The Olympics are fantastic. I love world-spanning sporting events like the Olympics and the WC. I see incoming sleep deprivation.
I'm glad that the time differential won't be as bad (for me, at least) as it was for the Beijing games. Doubly excited to watch more this summer than last time. Soccer won't be quite the priority that it could have been if the US had qualified, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on that, too.
Will David Tennant be carrying the torch into the Olympic stadium? (Referencing a Doctor Who episode, don't you know....)
Darn, stole my question. So I'm just going to second the motion. For the sake of the Space/Time Continum of course.
What I'm really looking forward to is becoming an absolute expert on sports I've never before watched (or at least haven't watched for at least four years) and talking with the misses about how absolutely ridiculous it was that the person in that sport couldn't/didn't do the one thing that would have given him a sure gold.
I'll watch all our US soccer matches (because our men may suck, but our women not only qualified but are attempting a threepeat) and I'll watch road cycling because I want to watch Cavendish. Those are the only events I'll actually make a point to watch/DVR if I'm not home. I usually have the TV on as I'm doing something else so I'll have it set to whatever Olympic sport is on at the time, but aside from those two events, there's nothing I go insane over.
I was in the UK during the Beijing Olympics and watched quite a lot of the coverage on the BBC (lol, you guys actually watch cycling). All of the talk was basically of how the London Olympics would be handled. I absolutely love both London and the Olympics, but I've got to say, I am a little fearful of the two mixing. Already shutting down the West End theatres... not a great sign. Hopefully you Londoners can still manage to get to work. I third this motion. You don't want to risk tearing a hole in the universe.
I've got extremely mixed feelings about the Olympics, so I'll be hard pressed to care enough to watch any of the events (save for perhaps the Opening Ceremony), especially since there will be so many baseball games I can watch during the summer.
I love the Olympics! I, like Inty, am going to watch everything possible and act like an expert on it. I'm hoping with the coverage some of the Equestrian events have gotten this year that it means they're going to show more of it on TV from the Olympics. Usually I have to tape obscure channels at ridiculous times in order to see like 4 riders. My mom and I are going to try to go the the gymnastics thing here where they're going to pick the team so I'm pretty excited about that.
