I actually had my reasons I am no so pro Anakin on this one. I think Sebastian the way he smiled made my so happy inside warm fuzzies. And with Hayden it's like a disconnect. The only thing is he Anakin for intents and purposes and for two whole moves not 60 seconds so I voted Hayden (who was jerked around by the affair, IMO) but I liked Shaw better. His reaction is joyful not well, guilty, not deserving. He DID give his life.

Obi-Wan and Yoda appear as old as they were when they died, so why not Anakin?
  3. Jedifirefly5 Jedi Master

    Because he was only 45.

I prefer sebastain because he was the orginal but hayden was in the prequals so i think of him as darth vader.:)
  6. Jedifirefly5 Jedi Master

It does matter. In my mind's eye now I see a paunchy Hayden with a half bald head and jowls. With Obi-wan and Yoda giving each other those smug looks and both make rabbit's ears behind Anakin... Actually that'd have been a great Robot Chicken.
  7. Arawn Fenn Force Ghost

I don't know, how does Anakin's life story differ from theirs?

He's actually burning the body, if the ROTJ DVD commentary is any indication.

He had a wife and kids? [face_party]

So Lucas 'forgot' this fact when he made the film back in '83 and only 'remembered' it later on? It's still an after-the-fact excuse...[face_talk_hand] "How does Anakin's life story differ from theirs?" is also known as "assuming what you set out to prove"
  9. Arawn Fenn Force Ghost

It's a question, it doesn't assume anything or set out to prove anything.
  10. Tosche_Station Jedi Master

It assumes that the in-universe continuity within SW re: Force ghosts that existed from '80 to '03/'04 was somehow 'wrong' all those years....
  11. Arawn Fenn Force Ghost

No, it doesn't say anything about that. It doesn't even use the words "Force ghosts", "consistency", "in-universe", "existed from 80 to 03/04" or, most importantly, "wrong".

  13. Tosche_Station Jedi Master

By it's very nature, it assumes that something was amiss with that situation.
  14. Arawn Fenn Force Ghost

No, it doesn't. It never says anything like that at all. I don't see the words "amiss" or "wrong" in it anywhere.

Looks like it's time for another "retraction"...
  15. Tosche_Station Jedi Master

If you're going to continue with the kabuki-dance, then my answer still stands:

He had a wife and kids? [face_party]

Then answer this: why was the question "how does Anakin's life story differ from theirs?"
never asked anytime prior to 2003/2004?

And...before you even try, when fans DID question Anakin's redemption/the ghost back in the 80's, these fans objected to his redemption/being a ghost in the first place , based on his bad deeds, not on 'what he looked' like.

    Yes...from you .

Anyway, I prefer Sebastian. He might have been too old given the timeline that was eventually established, but for me Hayden being way too young is much worse. At least with Sebastian you have a quick hand-wave (horrific injuries and 20 years feeding on the Dark Side) to justify him looking older than he really is, but there's no logical reason that he should look younger than he really is.
  17. Fassbenderfan Jedi Padawan

I don't mind Hayden but I prefer Sebastian. Firstly, it makes more sense to have Sebastian and secondly, he looks like a loving father rather than a creepy psychopath who is planning to kill everyone! Although, this is because they had to use Hayden's extra footage instead of actually filming the scene.
  18. Samuel Vimes Jedi Master

I prefer Shaw for the following reasons.

    1) Acting. Wheter the bit of Shaw not knowing is true or not, he still conveyed a paternal warmth and fatherly pride which was appropriate for the scene. Hayden just looks odd and has a weird smile and this doesn't fit the scene.

    2) Internal consistency. Having one actor play Anakin and then another 5 min later is jarring.

    3) Consistency with the other films. The logic is that Force ghosts look the age when the actual person died.
Now one character is rejuvenated but the other two are not.

    4) Age. If Shaw is too old then removing him from one scene and leaving him in the other doesn't solve the problem, instead you still have one scene with a too old actor and one with a too young actor.

    5) Shaw to me represents the redeemed Anakin, the Anakin that had gone to hell and managed to climb back out.
The one who could let go of his anger and his hate and find the peace and calm he never had when he was younger. Shaw was the person that triumphed over the dark side and his own darkness, Hayden was the one who fell pray to them.
In short Shaw represents the full character arc of Anakin as a character while Hayden represent only the middle part, the fall into darkness.
Shaw shows that the character has moved on, Hayden instead seem to indicate reversion, that Anakin goes back to the person he was just before the turn. Flaws and all.

Repeating what I posted earlier: Thanks to the 4-5 posters who are actually interested in having an intelligent discussion on this, as opposed to leaving me wondering if I've accidentally entered a forum full of middle schoolers with such bastions of intellectual thought as "Ewww, creepy."

As far as Hayden looking "too young," the debate would be whether Anakin was supposed to look his age when he died, or his age before he turned to the Dark Side. Either way works for me. Sebastian was way too old to be playing a 46-year-old but the suit could have aged him.

You had me until your last statement. I don't think Anakin going back to who he was, "flaws" and all, is such a bad thing. There was more to Anakin than his turn to the Dark Side, although sadly the film with its time constraints focused only on that.

Excellent points on the other statements I quoted though.
