well, this is only my second time posting here, but ive been mind boggled about this subject for some time now, (and i hope i am posting in the right section, as this mostly is about upcoming EU stuff)

after today, i am entirely caught up with the EU adult novels (i have no interested in the young reader stuff, however i have read galaxy of fear). Yup, ive read every book (and a couple ebooks) from The truce at bakura all the way to FOTJ Apocalypse.

The Clone Wars maybe has one-two tops seasons left.

i found TOR to be a horrible recton of the canon that has been formed, and i just dont enjoy the game, sadly i do casually play wow, but id really love to see a BF3, another rouge squad game, another Jedi acadamy (or even a reboot) or a game down the timeline of the EU (Vong, Dark Nest, Second galactic war) but i dont see any of that coming.

its been 6-7 years since the last movie, it almost seems like things are dying down, and i hate that, i have involved so much of star wars into my life, i really dont want to see it fade into history.

what do i have to look forward to? the same reprints of the same 70 figures every two years? cause they never seem to make good EU figures and toys (that are affordable)

im reading the dawn of the jedi comic series, and so far im so so about it, it feels like it should of started 20 years earlier then where it did, cause theres alot thats already established, also, cross current explains that 5000 year ago light sabers had to be tethered and have a battery source, even some of the old comics had that also, and now it seems thats been retconned.

Do i have anything to look forward to? i know Zhan has a few books in the distance, and they look great, but id really love a video game (i know theres no info at all, and that all games are being made at lucas arts from now on)

thanks for all your thoughts and responses
  2. The Loyal Imperial Census & Games General Manager

The Essential Guide to Warfare. Scourge. X-wing: Mercy Kill. Scoundrels. Agent of the Empire. The Essential Reader's Companion. Quite a bit, depending on where your interests lie.
  3. Gorefiend Jedi Grand Master

You could try and catch up on the old comic runs, unless of course you also already read all those as well :)

So do some others - Scourge is out next month and sounds intresting as well. Plus there are properly more of those nice Essential Guides coming up down the line.

If they keep the quality they showed with TFU and EAW I really don't want any new SW video games. If they start putting more effort into it sure, but otherwise don't bother.
  4. GGoodd Jedi Master

thanks for the resonses, i agree with you about the game quality, i dont want turds either, i havent actually looked at any of the essential guides, simply cause i see them as something that is ever evolving, and my bitterness with them is the lack of EU in alot of them, forexample i read one about Jedis at chapters a couple years back (2 or 3) and all it talks about is the typicial jedi in the movies, and i dunno, id like to see more EU stuff when it comes to that, although are there any that have Vong stuff in them (essential guides?)

ill admit i havent read even 10 precent of the comics, i have a few paperbacks (shadows of the empire, crimson empire 1 and 2) and a couple omnibus's like rouge squadrin ones, but outside of that, most of the comics are in some way related to the novels (except KOTOR stuff) but ive wanted to get into it, however, i also am reading 8 of the new DC 52, which adds up, and some of those old comics add up pretty fast, and i usually read them in 5 mins, so, its something ive always just tended to stay away from, or simply wookieepedia it if its that interesting to me, but the old republic area is my least favorite area, simply to all the retconning and contradictions (chiss on TOR for example)

*shakes head* oh the video games.... of course Lucas Arts lost me forever when they cancelled Star Wars Galaxies ( yeah I know but it was at least sandboxy) The last book I read that was new was Choices of One. I kind of had to stop after the NJO (Hated it) and it's hard to get the comics here so I need to wait for TPB on amazon. So I guess I'm curious too about what's good and what's coming.
  6. manisphere Jedi Master

From an EU standpoint I think there is as much to look forward to now as there ever was. There is an innate optimism/dread that comes with being invested in the EU.

The thing that bothers me most about SW right now is that DOTJ isn't a monthly.
  7. JediMatteus Jedi Master

I hate to be depressing, but i feel star wars is ending, and if it isn't, maybe it needs to because it is a dying beast. The cartoons are stupid, the last few movies were stupid, and the eu is getting worse all the time. Now they can't even put a good video game out. TFU2 was horrible, and now i hear that anyone that has previewed Kinect starwars says it is horrible. I reallly am interested in Kinect star wars and this depresses me. I wonder if even the KOTOR MMo is any good. It's all crashing down, and Lucas is the biggest reason. he has putting out Crap everywhere i look since Phantom Menace. and the 3d movies are horrible too.
  8. CooperTFN Jedi Grand Master

Wow, you've seen all six 3D movies already? Clearly we should listen to you.

Comics, people, comics! That's where you'll find the good stuff! To wit, series in flow:

    Dark Times
    Invasion
    Knight Errant
    Agent For The Empire
    Dawn Of The Jedi
    Blood Ties

    Past modern classics:

    Legacy
    KOTOR
The Clone Wars by Ostrander & Blackman - the Vos epic is particularly recommended
    Empire/Rebellion - the Sunbar/Jabiim arc being a highlight

Books? We do have X-Wing: Mercy Kill which is a must, Scourge may be worth checking out. After that? Hopefully there'll be the 4th Coruscant Nights book and Scoundrels next year and who knows what else in the pipeline?

Don't get me wrong - there's swathes of the EU I don't care for, thus am not buying, but there's still an awful lot of stuff I'm getting too.

Its not our fault that Lucasarts hates money.

They can make a Kotor 3, Battlefront III, Jedi Knight IV, Republic commando sequel or any other followup, but NO!

They just make garbage like TFU2. I didn't play Empire at war but i heard it was good.

Lucasarts is a joke now. I disagree with the movies sucking. I loved the PT and Episode I in 3d.

Star wars is not dying. Star Wars is getting a popularity boost with the 3d rerelease and tie ins.
  11. Gorefiend Jedi Grand Master

You might enjoy the Essential Atlas it has countless EU references and is generally a fun read explaining and covering many things, the movies themselves are references but only very minimally. Not much additional Vong stuff though, though there is a nice summery of the Vong war. Can’t really comment on The Essential Guide to the Force as it is the only one I never picked up as it really held no interest to me. ^^

I think you might really like the Legacy and some of the Empire/Rebellion comics (should all be out as TBP by now). Invasion is also great fun if you enjoyed the NJO.

Pretty much my though as well. I always felt that the SW comics are pretty awesome in general (even “bad” series usually have nice ideas and art work) and seem to be criminally overlooked by some fans, especially more modern series that are generally much better than current SW novels.
  12. JediMatteus Jedi Master

i don't have to see all 6. they were not originally made for 3d, thus they can never be made correctly for 3d. my cousin is a movie maker, he would know. none of them will be as good as the ones that ARE made for 3d.
  13. JediMatteus Jedi Master

the 3d release of the phantom menace was a joke, thats how all of them will be.
  14. BoromirsFan Jedi Master

    Thats your opinion.

Many reviews actually praised the 3D in TPM for its depth. Alot more care and effort was put into TPM 3D then say Clash of the titans.
  15. GGoodd Jedi Master

alright, well i can agree with jedimatteus about how they werent filmed in 3d, but it was much more enjoyable to watch thne, clash of the titans, and alot of other "3d" movies, but i really dont want this thread to become a argument on the movies, i think when im in walking shape (broken fibula) i will make my way to my comic shop, they pretty much have everything. thank guys
  16. Jedi Ben Jedi Grand Master

Unless you have a particular loyalty to your local comic shop - something I can well understand - you're best to grab the TPBs online, with 30-40% discounts applied!
  17. GGoodd Jedi Master

yell, i have been going to my comic shop for 12 years, i know the owners, take part in events and such, but 30-40 precent discounts is crazy, where can i find this? that ship to canada.

    thanks alot for the info
  18. manisphere Jedi Master

In my experience as a trade collector in Canada, you can't. Looking at Amazon, a trade plus shipping is maybe a dollar or two less than I pay at my LCS.
  19. BoromirsFan Jedi Master

I recommend you start reading the Star Wars omnibus collections they have. There is a new one coming out about the first republic issues on the clone wars
