I could have sworn we had a thread on this already, but I wasn't able to find one with the search... So the schedules have all been released now. I have to say, I do not understand why SDCC continues to be so stupid as to put all the Joss Whedon things in Ballroom 20. According to MySched, so far the Firefly 10 Year Anniversary panel is the most popular panel and it's in there. What's even better is that it's after Community They couldn't even put it first. So as a result, there's no way anyone who just wants to see Community is going to be able to get in to that panel. Which really sucks because that's been one of my absolute favorite panels the last two years Now, how long will I have to camp out to get in for Man of Steel and The Hobbit in Hall H on Saturday? This is the current conundrum.
I'd be jealous of you attending except for the fact that you have to deal with crowds of deodorant-deprived nerds and, worse, vampire media fans.
Walk up to a booth-babe and tell her, "Unlike the hoards of nerds you have to deal with today I showered, put on deodorant, and sprayed myself with a nice calogne. Let's get that picture." I bet you get a good laugh from her.
Legend of Korra is before the Firefly panel and after the Community panel. We're getting in line at 6am. I'm torn on the Hobbit panel. The Avatar fan panel is at 11am, so I'm debating whether 2.5 hours in line for Hall H will really be enough to get into that.
If I was going I would be at the Community and Firefly panels. And then Man of Steel. Someday I will make it to Comic-Con.
Ok Hobbit panel. Rumor has it that PJ, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, and Andy Serkis are all going to be there. How could anyone not be nerdgasming OUT OF THEIR EARS about this? If I had the opportunity to go to Comic Con or the good fortune to be from San Diego I'd be spazzing so hard I'd drown in my own foam. To anyone who's going.....I sincerely hope you have an awesome time while knowing that I'm insanely jealous of you. (I bet you thought I was going to say "**** you" or something didn't you?) Well, **** you!
Because it's in Hall H, which was its own special kind of hell the only time I tried to get in... three years ago, I think it was? I managed to get in on time (You can actually barely see me in a "Thanks Comic Con" photo at the end of an episode of The Big Bang Theory), but it's only gotten worse. Saturday in general is a nonstarter for me, it's just too nutty. Most of the good comic stuff is on Thursday anyway.
I'm more jealous of the folks who will be at CVI, specifically all the JC'ers who will be hanging out, Mort. Being stuck here in L.A. for that is going to be tough.
The difference is, there are actually things I want to see and do at SDCC. I wouldn't be interested in any panels at CVI. And I know not everyone goes to the convention itself. But still, I got a free pass to Comic-Con and I have free lodging with a friend so... as vacations go, that's pretty sweet Yeah, I like the Avatar panel... the thing is, Martin Freeman. I mean, he's been one of my favorite actors for 10 years. And I am so stoked to have him as Bilbo. So yeah, I don't care how early I have to get there, I'm going to the Hobbit panel. It helps that Man of Steel is in that block as well. EDIT: Oh, and Evan....
Yeah, I usually spent 100-200 on comics at comic-con. I could do without all the Glee/Breaking Bad/etc sort of things showing up. They really seem out of place. Haven't looked at any schedules yet, I don't really expect there to be much that interests me, though, in terms of panels. And I too am jealous of those going to CVI
Honestly I don't mind having things that aren't genre at Comic Con. Breaking Bad, Dexter... I mean, almost everything is genre, there are still tons of comics things and artists there. Having a couple shows that aren't genre but are generally well liked amongst pop culture geeks is totally fine. To me it's more an indication that, as I've seen over the years, the crowd has shifted to include a lot more industry people and general pop culture nerds.
Barely. It's gotten so bad that a few of the organizers started up a new comic convention to actually focus on the damn comics. Still, the Sunday deals remain amazing.
