Lit Favourite Star Wars Narrative (Outside of the Films)

What is your favourite Star Wars storyline outside of the events of the six films? So, basically to make that clearer, what is your favourite event that you don't see happen in any of the movies?

It can be anything from books, to comics, to the Clone Wars series, to games and beyond!

To start us off, I'd have to say my favourite is the book version of Splinter of the Mind's Eye, narrowly ahead of some of the Jedi Apprentice books. Mainly because it was the first book I read outside of the films, and really saw for the first time how much could go on outside of the episodes.

    Feel free to share yours!

hmnn. I really loved Shadows of the Empire. We see this huge leap of ability and confidence from Luke from ESB to ROTJ. Always wondered what happened in between that led him to who he became. That novel is the answer to that question.
  3. manisphere Jedi Master

SoE was certainly fantastic. I might have to say the entire flawed Ulic Qel Droma arc. Most notably Dark Lords of the Sith, The Sith Wars and Redemption.
  4. GoodValors Jedi Master

I'm terrible at picking favourites, especially in something like Star Wars as I've been a fan so long nostalgia and present day hype each present their own appeals... hmm...

Like manisphere, for a long time TOTJ was up there, as it was one of the first EU works I read... but I think the KOTOR comic has finally knocked it off its nostalgic pedestal for me, as there are few things I've enjoyed that beat Zayne's adventures. It had the nostalgia of TOTJ; it had the then-current hype of the video games; it had the hope of the OT; and even now the story's over, I still remember it fondly when I'll forget about most EU works soon after I've put them down.

The only thing that would top it is Zayne & Griff Go to Good Valors.

There can only be one: Dark Empire.
  6. darthcaedus1138 Jedi Master

The entirety of the Legacy era. It was my introduction to comics in general, and opened up a whole new time period for Star Wars lore.
  7. Dr. Steve Brule Jedi Master

    Shatterpoint.
  8. Jedirob123 Jedi Padawan

The Republic Commando series was excellent. My favorite was probably Triple Zero. An excellent book and an excellent star wars story.

I don't really see the reason so many people like Shatterpoint. All the user reviews are great and people seem to love it but I just couldnt get into it. Besides Nick Rostu I really didn't feel a connection to any character, especially Mace. I am not hating on anyone who enjoyed the book because there are a bunch of books I loved that others didn't, this is just my opinion.

I loved the RC series as well, it is my all time favorite series of SW novels. Breaking it down further, I especially enjoyed the prologue from Order 66. So much so that I took my screen name here because of it. ;)
  10. Jedirob123 Jedi Padawan

Jusik was my favorite character in the entire series. He was smart and very badass.
  11. Darth_Duck Jedi Padawan

Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor was just brilliant.

I'd have a hard time choosing between Star by Star and Traitor.
SBS introduced me to Sw literature and made me care about characters I had never heard of before and subsequently shed a few tears when they died. It really opened me up to reading any literature at all when I was younger.
Traitor, there's something about the awesome way Stover wrote this book that just has me randomly picking it up several times a year and giving it a good read. It's heads and tails above in numbers of reads above any other SW lit I've enjoyed.

Because the question is a bit fragmented I would say:
    Favourite Narrative:
    The Han Solo Trilogy

    Favourite Moment:
    Traitor

    Favourite Series overall:
    The X-Wing series
  14. Darth_Invidious Jedi Grand Master

Traitor was by far one of the few novel on the NJO cycle I really
liked. and I mostly hated that storyline.

To me my favorite bit of the EU is still the Heir to the Empire/Thrawn Trilogy. Nothing written afterwards simply wowed me the way those books did.

  15. Crimson Zephyr Jedi Master

The Legacy comics, The Thrawn trilogy, Shadows of the Empire.
  16. AdmiralWesJanson Jedi Master

Thrawn Trilogy, then the X-Wing books.
  17. Lordban Jedi Knight

That would be a tie between the Thrawn Trilogy and Traitor (the second being up there for its unique style).
  18. BoromirsFan Jedi Master

Legacy, Republic (Clone War arc), Dark Times, KOTOR comics, KOTOR, KOTOR II.
  19. JediMara77 Jedi Master

    The Thrawn Trilogy.
