Lit Hapes, Planet of the Amazons: An Essay Guide to the hidden worlds of Hapes

Discussion in 'Expanded Universe' started by ceiranharmony, May 29, 2012.

  1. ceiranharmony Jedi Master

I got an essay in the works, quite detailed and want your fan expertise to discuss and help where possible... some excerpts of the rather lengthy essay here for discussion.

I plan to do more such essays compiling all existing canon lore for other cultures too, creating essays that feature chronology, culture, sociology, government, law, taboos etc. of said cultures/worlds/species and discuss potential timeline gaps, explanations and retcons needed and offer some theories in the end clearly separated from the canon lore compilation base of the essay.

please check if anything is missing!

    Hapan Chronology

Before 25000 BBY: Celestials construct the Hapes Cluster as a safe haven/redoubt for dark times

17000 - 12000BBY Lorell on maps of the Alsakan conflict on the Lorellian Trade Route through the Hapes Cluster (Warfare Guide)

4200 BBY Lorell Raiders begin raiding/kidnapping the Perlemian amongst other places, piling up treasures and beauties

4050 BBY Battle of Lorell: After centuries of raiding and kidnapping, Jedi Master Arca Jeth defeats the Lorell Raiders with a Jedi Taskforce in the Hapes Cluster (on Lorell, a boarder world just outside the Transistory Mists!). But they do not find and clear out all Lorell Raider hideouts deeper inside the Cluster, especially on Hapes itself, despite fatally crippling the organisation.

Note: Lorellian/Hapan Revolution within less than 83 years

After the defeat of the Lorell Raiders at the hands of the Jedi, the remaining population of Hapes, most of whom were female, decided to create a new government system which gave power to one woman. Given the title of Queen Mother, the chosen woman united the planets of the Hapes Cluster and formed the basis of the Hapes Consortium. Later on, she would commission the building of Star Home, a mobile replica of the Fountain Palace on Hapes that she would use when traveling abroad. Around the same time Star Home was completed, the first Queen Mother sealed the borders of the Hapes Consortium from any outsiders and quickly captured more planets within the Cluster for the Hapans to colonize.

3967 - 3960 Mandalorian Wars: Myths of the Planet of the Amazons and brutal female Raiders kidnapping men for all their desires inspire the holoflicks and adult entertainment throughout the galaxy (planet hoppers: hapes, ladies first, wotc)

Hapans repell all attempts at military action, trade or diplomacy the Old Republic or Sith attempt over the years (Intrigue Sb)

3100BBY Isolationist Queenmother closes the boarders of the Cluster which will not be opened untill 8ABY; Hapes enters a Golden Age

3000BBY Foundation of the Chume'doro, the Queen Mother's 100 women strong Royal Guard, selected from the Navy. In later times the numbers of the royal guard increased due to their protection being expanded to the royal family.
Sidenote: Chume'doro inspected visitors, accompanied the Queenmother everywhere and even tasted her food for her. When sheming heirs corrupted some royal guards to assassinate the Queen Mother, the Investigative Branch was founded to ferret out plots against the Queenmother and perform internal-affairs surveillance.

Over the years, many conflicts and revolts tried to challenge the Queenmother's rule. Be it single worlds revolting lead by males of noble birth, united pirate fleets raiding worlds or assassination and terroristm threats. Most though was a golden age and peace kept by Hapan Forces.

During the late Old Republic / TCW shortly before the Rise of the Empire/Great Jedi Purge: hapan Jedi washout Sinsor Khal returnes to the Hapes Cluster and becomes a scientist

During the Galactic Empire no records of any major confrontations between the two parties exist as of yet. However there were several boarder skirmishes resulting in Hapans capturing several Imperial Stardestroyers. Rumors also exist of Palpatine being in love with a Hapan woman. Imperial Intelligence provides support for would-be insurgents in the outlying worlds in order to gain a foothold from which the Empire can scout the Queen Mother's domain. These Rifle Worlds are a constant troublespot for the Queen Mother and hard to govern, despite the Queen Mother's attempts to pacify them or grant them the illusion of quasi-freedom without any lawchanges despite reasserting full hapan control.

0 BBY/ABY Imperial Incursion: Grand Admiral Osvald Teshik "sentenced to death" by being sent with an insufficient mini-Force into the Hapes Cluster which got decimated quickly. He barely survived and returned to duty, his lesson learned (EgtW).

4+ ABY Hapans capture many Imperial Stardestroyers freeing themselves of Imperial independant affiliate status (Atlas), a mere nominal title and Imperial guard forces outside the Transistory Mists

8 ABY COPL: Hapan Chume'da Isolder initiates contact with the New Republic Diplomatic Corps and Leia Organa, leading to subsequent events that…
… lead to matriarchic Dathomir (Quellii Sector) becoming the 64th member world of the Hapes Consortium, the first world outside the Cluster under Hapan protection
… Chume'da Isolder marrying dathomiri warrior princess Teneniel Djo who will succeed Erenada Ta'a chume as Queenmother
… Chume'da Isolder donating a fleet of captured Imperial Stardestroyers as well as many other gifts to the New Republic for free
… the Hapes Consortium joining the New Republic not fully as first proposed but as Allied Region with much independency kept due to Erenada Ta'a chume's Veto to her sons plans, like she too vetoed a revolution for male rights as well as other major changes to Hapan culture
… Teneniel Djo undergoing education and training for her future as Queenmother until 10.5 ABY
… Hapes Consortium becomes a late founding state in the New Republic due to efforts of Ta'a chume at her sons request. (Intrigue Sb)
… Teneniel Djo and Isoler will during their rule bring many changes to hapan society but not all of Isolders dreams come true
… the Chume'doro shifted its allegiance to Teneniel Djo placing Ta'a chume under house protection. But Ta'a chume played her loyal houseguards to plot Teneniel's assassination. This lead to a secret war within the ranks of the Chume'doro and assassinations thinning the group.

    Facts as of 8ABY:
-Hapes Cluster has billions of inhabitants, Hapes itself has 8 million
-The Cluster has billions of Cyborrean Cyborg Soldiers and 63 Battle Dragons, each leading a Home Fleet of Nova Cruisers and other craft, with more Battle Dragons in reserve

10.5 ABY Erenada Teneniel Djo chume becomes the next Queenmother as she is pregnant/gives birth to her daughter, chume'da Tenel Ka chume'ta Djo (birth in between 10.5-11.1ABY as per Leeland Chee)

11-17 ABY Several times, Imperial Forces visit Dathomir to recruit Nightsisters. Hapan protection in this time is not sufficient to keep the world safe, but Imperial attempts concentrate on small punctual parts of Dathomir only, with no constant or large occupation planned.

23 ABY Chume'da Tenel Ka chume ta Djo visits the Jedi Praxeum Academy on Yavin IV to become a Jedi in addition to her mothers Dathomiri Witchcraft education

26 ABY Half the Hapan Fleet is lost due to Centerpoint Station being fired while in battle with a major Yuuzhan Vong invasion force // The Yuuzhan Vong invade Dathomir but never manage to fully conquer it after many months of battles between the Witches and their hapan allies against the invaders, succeeding in repelling them even.

27 ABY Erenada Tenel Ka Djo chume becomes Queenmother succeeding Erenada Teneniel Djo chume

27 ABY The Chume'doro's secret war finally is over as they unite to protect Queen Mother Tenel Ka Djo and later her daughter Allana.

36 ABY Chume Da Allana Djo-Solo born to Erenada Tenel Ka Djo chume and Jacen Solo

With the Jedi Praxeum founded on Dathomir shortly before the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion, and later the Jedi relocating their Ossus Academy as well as their Coruscant temple to Shedu Maad inside the Hapes Cluster, the two most prominent Jedi training facilities are now on Hapan territory.

Hapan Ships protect Dathomir in space, while a spaceport has been constructed onworld to handle commerce and traffic. Many hapan males fled the cluster to find to refuge on distant Dathomir where they joined male clans who met with female clans for marriage and breeding rituals until further reforms on Dathomir lead to the joining of some such clans. Male equality on Dathomir was still a long shot away, but closer than on distant Hapes with males in their own clans having the freedom they dreamed of until a Witch would decide to capture them for breeding.

The Consortium becomes more isolationist during the Legacy era despite Queen Mother Tenel Ka's desire for more openness.

Hapan government, laws, taboos, dos and don't's

-Men are not allowed to own property, take a job or get higher education without approval of their wife, mother, female relative or female political superior (wotc Intrigue Sourcebook)
-Hapes never seated more than a third of their senators in NR times (wotc Intrigue Sb))
-Hapan law requires a degree of cleanliness that would be startling on nearly any other civilized world (Essential Atlas)
-Leftovers of old Raider culture turned upside down lead to the dominant women allowing polygamy, larger agegaps between lovers as well as other taboos (conjecture based on Dark Nest, Dark Journey: Ta'a chume has a consort who is her granddaughters age; a Queenmother can have as many consorts as she wants and basically can choose from all of them like a harem; Ta'a chume tried to marry Isolder to Jaina Solo)
-Due to the matriarchal society of the Hapes Consortium, men were often treated as second class citizens. Although most Hapan males were used mainly for breeding, some held positions of power, although their ability to use it was often limited. Some Hapan men who felt trapped by their position in society often ran away and became pirates. These men hid out in the Transitory Mists and preyed on unsuspecting vessels, at least until caught by passing Hapan Nova-class battle cruisers. When captured, they would be put on trial and possibly executed depending on how severe the charge was.
-The Hapans were ruled by the Queen Mother from Fountain Palace as part of the Hapes Consortium. The title of Queen Mother was hereditary, passed down from mother to daughter. If the Queen Mother failed to have daughters, the wife of the firstborn son became Queen Mother. However, to be in the line of succession meant both the Queen Mother and her heirs had to avoid constant attempts on their lives by jealous relatives who vied for the throne themselves.
-In addition to the Queen Mother, there were also representatives from each Consortium member planet at the Royal Court. Their main purpose was to vote on matters of importance and to give updates on the political and social conditions of their home planets that may require the Queen Mother's attention. The Queen Mother had the final say on everything, and her word was considered law.
-Hapan Government and all its branches: Keeping order comes first, and the happiness of their people is a distant second. The government wants its people to be healthy, wealthy and comfortable, but only when it can tell them when and how to enjoy such benefits. Female superiorty is another major point against all reformist efferots. Over the centuries various movements tried to bring change to hapan culture, usually starting with granting males rights to own and inherit property, etc. without female relative or government officials authorisation. These movements range in character from peaceful groups that petition the Queen Mother to violent insurgencies that try to carve out their own territory within the cluster and overthrow hapan leadership. Invariably leaders of such groups continue to work from within prisons.
-Hapan government institutions are structured to use fear to keep order: In addition a wellknown network of informants, police officers and others have the freedom to be judge, jury and executioner when the situation warrants it. But this power is rarely used in favor of the Gun of Command dissolving any conflict quickly and without violence. These they use to get public admissions of guilt from criminals before they are transported off to prison for further subjetion to more extensive brainwashing techniques, that reprogram them to be productive citizens.
-The Chume'doro are a police force, not military and can overrule even highest ranking fleet admirals. They posess unlimited authority and answer only to the Queenmother. During full-scale battles the Chume'doro command the Hapes Home Guard as well as other military elements. Special branches of the Chume'doro: Fountain Snipers, Royal Fliers, Fountain Gunners. The Chume'doro consist of 2 branches: Royal and Investigative. The Royal branch has one elite rank: The Favored, few in numer, who are 100% female and have complete authority over the Royal Guard, Hapan military forces and civilians. The rest is 95% female and 5% male.
-The Queenmother is believed to be a goddess and treated like one
-Queenmother Tenel Ka started a secret club, the Lorellian Court, consisting of her cousins Taryn and Trista Zel, Zekk, as well as very few other close friends to protect her. Upon her 18th birthday Allana would join them and until then learn to understand their sign language and secret modus operandi.

Hapan Language, Titles and Naming traditions

Erenada: Prefix to the Queenmother's Name/Title
Ta'a chume: Queenmother, though it is more likely Ta'a is the name and just chume is the title.
chume'da: firstborn of the Queenmother = heir, gender neutral
chume'la: wife of the firstborn of the Queenmother
    chume'ta: Princess
Ta'a chume Dan: Queenmother's City, capital city of Hapes... if Ta'a is part of the name, the name of the city changed with each queenmother, f.e. Tenel Ka chume Dan.

    Queenmothers full title:
Erenada "name" chume or Erenada Ta'a chume (replacing the old name upon taking the throne)
    Chume'da Isolder (Queenmother's firstborn/heir Isolder)
Chume'la Teneniel Djo (Wife of the Queenmothers firstborn/heir Teneniel Djo)
Chume'da Tenel Ka chume'ta Djo (Heir to the throne Princess Tenel Ka Djo)

Note: Chume'da is the gender neutral term for heir whereas chume'ta is genderspecific and does not mean just the heir inheriting the throne but any daughter, even those not inheriting the throne like the firstborn. If a Queenmother had several daughters, the first would be the Chume'da "name" chume'ta "last name" while all others are just "name" chume'ta "last name".

other snippets of information not yet sorted:

One the surface hapan society appears beautiful and graceful. Architecture, ship designs and fashion focus on elegant lines that echo rather than overhelm the beauty of the environment.

Hapan culture, at least among the upper classes, was based on assassination attempts and struggles for power. Most upper class Hapans would think nothing of arranging the death of one of their own if it would advance their own cause. Ta'a Chume had demonstrated this principle numerous times when she had arranged for the deaths of her elder son, her younger son's fiancé, and her daughter-in-law, and attempted to have her granddaughter and great-granddaughter killed. In addition, there was a class based system within Hapan society. Among the royal family of Hapes, its members did not treat their servants well with women being accorded greater respect than men, industrialists afforded more respect than farmers and finally royalty being given the most respect to all. Thus, the concept of treating one of lower status as an equal was something that was quite foreign to their way of thinking.

The Queen Mother was treated like a goddess by the Hapans, and her selection of a consort was important to all her people. Candidates for the role of consort often came from the nobility, mainly to keep the gene pool vibrant. There were fierce rivalries between many noble houses over which house would get their sons to father the next Queen Mother, and nobles often plotted against both the consort and the heir of the Queen Mother who was not fathered by one of their own. It was because of this that Allana's paternity was kept secret, so all the noble houses would believe that one of their own possibly fathered her and would not harm her. (ok.. I am starting it again but... does that mean Tenel Ka slept with one member of at least each Hapan noble house... or how would they think they are potential fathers otherwise? D'oh!)

Due to the matriarchal society of the Hapes Consortium, men were often treated as second class citizens. Although most Hapan males were used mainly for breeding, some held positions of power, although their ability to use it was limited. Some Hapan men who felt trapped by their position in society often ran away and became pirates. These men hid out in the Transitory Mists and preyed on unsuspecting vessels, at least until caught by passing Nova Battle Cruisers. When captured, they would be put on trial, and possibly executed depending on how severe the charge was.

Anti-Jedi sentiment was rife among the Hapans, mainly due to the fact that the Lorell Raiders had fallen to the Jedi. This sentiment came to head during the reign of Ni'Korish, Ta'a Chume's mother. Ni'Korish had an immense hatred of Jedi and had done her best to wipe out any that had made their way into the Consortium. Because of this, an anti-Jedi faction had formed among the Hapans named after her. The faction had come into prominence during the Yuuzhan Vong War, mainly due to the backlash of the Battle of Fondor. Many Hapans who had blamed Teneniel Djo for the disaster at Fondor became members of the Ni'Korish. It was this faction, under the control of Ta'a Chume, that had Teneniel Djo assassinated in 27 ABY. It is not known what the thoughts of the general Hapan public were regarding the new Queen Mother, Tenel Ka, being a member of the Jedi Order. However, there is a hint of greater tolerance towards the Jedi during Tenel Ka's leadership after Jacen Solo saved her from Corellian sympathizers in 40 ABY. The Hapan loyalists highly praised Jacen as a hero for his actions, seemingly an indication of the decrease in anti-Jedi sentiments.

The Hapan people had a deep (some would say neurotically so) love of beauty. If a person, especially the heir to the throne, was blemished or deformed in any way, it was considered a fate worse than death.

Hapans were biologically similar to baseline Humans; however, they possessed some key differences, the most prominent of which was that they were selectively bred over many generations to be beautiful. This was due to the fact that in 4,000 BBY, the pirates that originally ruled the Hapes Cluster captured and mated with the more attractive of the Human women they captured. Due to the isolation of the sixty-three inhabited worlds that made up their home, the whole population eventually became beautiful due to the limited gene pool.

Another trait that Hapans possessed was their night blindness. Because of the perpetual daylight of Hapes and other planets in the Cluster due to the density of stars in the region and the nebulas in their systems, the Hapans have lost all ability to see in the dark, and were nearly blind even in dim lighting.

According to one account, the Hapan people were pacifists and diplomats who led with a more peaceful stance. Despite this being the case, there were numerous advocates that desired a stronger military pressence in this time with one of those would becoming the future Ta'a Chume. Eventually, the Consortium encountered the Galactic Empire and was said to had fallen to them with some claiming that the actions of pacifists and diplomats nearly ruining the Hapan realm.

The Hapans were also considered paranoid by non-natives, which, given the political climate on Hapes, was not an unreasonable assumption for the non-natives to make.
-Dathomir still is 64th member of the Hapes Consortium, protected by ships in orbit and with hapan installations on the ground in the spaceport, but governed by the Witch clans. thus Hapes got two Jedi Academies with Shedu Maad and Dathomir on its political territory!
    Intrigue sourcebook wotc:
-what made Ni'korish so angry about the Jedi? TCW time or earlier? how come isolationist Hapes had contact with the Jedi anyway and when?
-Hapes turned more isolationist in Legacy era despite Tenel Ka wishing otherwise

    Conjectures:
-Lorell Raiders operated over hundreds of years, thus had a strong secret base inside the Cluster, charting and settling many of its worlds. (think Caribbean sea pirates with many unknown islands with hidden treasures, secret settlements and the like)
-Lorell Raiders had their own shipyards or at least good repair yards and fleet(s) inside the cluster (since women later inherited all that building their famous Battle Dragons)
-Hapes must have been an important world to Raiders and the females since it became THE major world of the Cluster opposed to Lorell the namegiver of the raiders.
-Lorell as namegiver was home to original Raiders or their first/most prominent raid?
-which worlds up and down / near the Perlemian were raided or had most beautiful women to be stolen as Hapan ancestors?
  3. Jedifirefly5 Jedi Master

The lore is fascinating. i wish we'd hear more about this sector. And NOT just from Tenel Ka.
  4. Master_Bane Jedi Padawan

Nitpick: Hapes: Ladies First states 8 billion as the population for Hapes, not 8 million.

The population for the entire cluster seems to be in the trillions, according to Allana.
  5. ceiranharmony Jedi Master

ah thx for catching that typo!

PS: I'd always love to hear more of Tenel Ka, but of the Cluster too, agreed there.

If anybody favors a culture I should do next, please propose it ;) got quite a list ahead of me, ranging from Dathomir, Kuat, Corellia, Zeltros, Ryloth, Tatooine etc. through half the planets the Atlas mentions.
  6. ceiranharmony Jedi Master

I wonder... are all Hapans kaukasian/white? are there asian, black, etc. hapans too on other worlds in the cluster? hmm diversity folks, help me find proof!
  7. Cronal Jedi Master

Very nice ceiranharmony going to reread actually since you put quite a bit of effort into it and want to process it more. Though I wanted to add something also that might be of interest. The IA companion Dr. Lokin mentions a "Hapani royal assassin" killing a Cipher Agent at some point. So if Hapani = Hapan, well they were active back then as well. And love the Hapans, would love to see more from the Consortium like how it operates further, more on their starships, their army and manufacturers etc.
  8. ceiranharmony Jedi Master

thx for the TOR bit! I have seen some other item description that sounded like it might be hapan, but forgot its name now.
  9. Cronal Jedi Master

Just to comment, we know that the Hapes Cluster was not completely isolated from the rest of the galaxy as seen with Sinsor Khal who was a prospective Jedi candidate prior to the Jedi Purge. I would imagine there was some limited contact and perhaps maybe some odd Jedi encounters with the Hapans over the years? Maybe some limited Jedi involvement in the Rifle Worlds where they attempted to help the oppressed masses against the Queen-Mothers rule? Mostly speculation on my part here but there could be quite a few reasons for Ni'korish and her followers hating Jedi ranging from Jedi interference/simple prejudice/etc.

I think one of the reasons for the anti-Jedi sentiment is also because Hapan politics involves a lot of lies, deception and trickery. Something very hard to do with living lie detectors running around namely Force sensitives.

One question, I remember reading about Hapan cyborg soldiers but was it ever stated that they were Cyborrean? But other thing that was cool with Hapan Security was that ultra secret Lorellian Court division. Kind of liked that introduction in Apocalypse. On Hapan warfare, I think the best comment on that was in NJO when Prince Isolder told Leia during the Consortium's attack on the Vong that the Hapans preferred lightning quick attacks on their enemies which was something they learnt from their pirate ancestors.
  10. Gorefiend Jedi Grand Master

We know the Hapes kept getting technology (they build the Civil War era Miytil with the help of Sepi designers that fled the Empire for example) and Hapan pirates would regularly make raids outside of the Consortium.Whilst smuggles would try to get into the Consortium. So there properly is some contact and interaction, it’s just very limited due to the government’s stance.

Cultural left offer properly or she was influenced by Palpatines agents to avoid the Jedi possible hiding out in the Hapas cluster.

The glorious children of Varl of course. :p

Dathomir was apparently just a protectorate not a member and they could have colonized more in between, as the Atlas hints at there being more worlds that could support life in the Cluster. Or of course just a typo ;)
  11. ceiranharmony Jedi Master

good points, though I'd rather not have the Jedi sneak around inside the Cluster. Sinsor Khal is more likely one of the rogue hapan males that got Jedi training when discovered outside the cluster but returned home and evaded punishment. But your point about Jedi and rifle worlds makes too much sense to be ignored ;)
Maybe Ni'korish intended to get her own Forceuser support but it backfired and once Jedi trained after being given to the Jedi, Sinsor Khal would no longer support her shemes, thus he got not killed which would be felt by his Jedi Master far away, but rather served in other ways.

as for Cyborreans, yeah Cyborrea is a world in the cluster after all and it was mentioned in COPL. so the cyborg soldiers come from there, other Hapan soldiers must not be cyborgs. but I wonder if cyborging is a punishment for males too if not death is chosen for them. like Lobot could choose becoming a cyborg as punishment in his past.

and yub, Lorellian Court just rocks. Loving every bit of it.

a bit unrelated but remotely on topic: I long had a favourite pet theory that might go too far... but given the Hapan-Dathomiri connections in post-ROTJ EU.. I wished for Allya, the banned rogue Jedi to have been a hapan Jedi, who took matriarchic tendencies from her home cluster and formed her own heretic female forcecult before being banished to Dathomir after her cult got destroyed. There she tried again with witches who already came close to what she had in mind.
well too many connections might not be optimal, but I always found the idea appealing. what would you think?
  12. ceiranharmony Jedi Master

    and more good points..

Sepi designers? nice, but please no Sepi/Hapan crossbreeds :p

Ni'korish: We do not know when her reign ended and Ta'a chume took over, but my guess is so far that during the Clone Wars Ta'a chume took over, if not earlier already. So tying Ni'korish to Palpatine will be difficult, because Ta'a chume is said to have been the longest ruling Queen Mother of the Consortium of all her precedessors. But the Palpatine - Hapes connection has still some merits I want to keep. Given the false story about a hidden Jedi temple and Jedi hiding in the cluster, what if at least some part of it had a tiny piece of truth in it here? That might help us discover what was up with Ni'korish and Ta'a chume.
Ta'a chume was said to be very different compared to her mother, even more isolationist than Ni'korish! So it makes sense if Ni'korish had more contact with the galaxy than her daughter, who learned from her mothers errors. Ni'korish allowed Sinsor Khal to be trained by the Jedi and it however backfired leading to her hating them more than just by cultural inheritance of the hatred. Sinsor Khal returned, and Ta'a chume overthrew her mothers rule.
Since Palpatine knows the Jedi well, he knows Sinsor Khal trained with them I bet. And he learned Sinsor Khal returned to the Cluster maybe. So he guessed Jedi are hiding in the Cluster and approached Ta'a chume I bet. All falls into place ;)
Of course I'd still find it nice if the Consortium actually had a Jedi hideout that Ta'a chume wiped out herself to appease Palpatine.

Or even worse, my other pet theories come true in which Ta'a chume is much like her son Isolder in younger years before she learns through trial and error on an errant that the outside galaxy is evil, that Jedi are bad company and that dating rogues and smugglers does not work out longterm except for getting her pregnant. o_O

And yes, Dathomir, while ruled by Witches, was a protectorate but also a member. Just not one with full representation etc. as other worlds inside the cluster had. I thought COPL made clear Dathomir did indeed join.

PS: the glorious children of Varl... hmm, the PG-13 variant or the full truth of Hutt depravity? Had hoped for something easier to tackle next, but with your help, who knows ;)
  13. Gorefiend Jedi Grand Master

Äh the Atlas places it in Hutt space.o_O And has the Cyborreans as servant race of the Hutts.

Galaxy of Intrigue does mention complex brain washing and reprogramming of criminals ;) so certainly a possibility.

We could give it a try, though there would be tons of really obscure stuff to dig through with Hutt culture. ^^ The Tion worlds would properly be more interesting.

Hutts... always Hutts. Must have been one of the rare cases where my mind could move entire planets... oops. Not Cyborrea but Charubah it was... ; )looked it up now

Tion worlds are a treat, but still a lot to dig through given recent Tionese love by Jason ;) It'd be easier to finish the cultures that are unique and interesting but featured not too much in canon first, or one-planet-cultures. But I bow to your choice, if you are willing to help.

Kuat could also be intriguing, though they seem to lack a “healthy moral compass” [face_thinking]

yub, I also thought of the Echani, underused to date and tied to the Thyrsians, and their Thyrsus Sun Guards.

I think that the fall of the Raiders/rise of the Hapans event might have occured later.

1)From a semantic POV, ''since the Mandalorian Wars'' was written at a time when, in the EU, the Mandalorian Wars were the most detailed point of the storyline between the Prequels and Tales of the Jedi. Besides, ''since'' can have multiple senses : in french at the very least, the direct translation (depuis) can mean something relatively remote.

Example : '''the Gulf War featured the largest air operations since the Second World War''. This sentence would remain perfectly accurate in 2100, 2200, 2300...

2)On Earth, pirate nests were regulary attacked with their fleets destroyed, but as long as there was not a follow up campaign on the ground, the pirates remained. Examples would include the Barbary Corsairs, whose fleets were repeatedly destroyed by French, Spanish, Dutch, British and later American fleets from 1600 to 1800. Even if piracy was eradicated as a serious risk in the Med around 1750, there was pirates raids until the French conquered Algeria in 1830

In the GFFA, there was never any indication that the Battle of Lorrell was followed by any ground campaign. (This would be on par with the New Republic policy in the Koornatch cluster after the Battle of N'zoth).

but this is not french and if we get such exact dating we take it as it is usually ;) no need to change something that needs no change. 83 years is enough time for the revolution to occur.

no sign of a follow up campaign does not mean there was none but that we do not know if or not. also again the incient is meant as the turning point that changed the Hapes Cluster and its people and as that authorial intention it should be treated. Interpretation allows a lot, sure, but interpreting against authorial intention is not optimal even if possible.

i know your issues with these points ;) lets agree to disagree I think, cause in my opinion canon, which I only reluctantly use for making a point here, clearly indicates that the literal impression is the right one. that said, your pov on events is an interesting one that makes for good stories too, and we'll see if future stories tackle this one or the other way.

I would say here that Hapes being at the frontier between the Inner Rim and the Expansion region, for people in the Core, what happens here is somewhat trivial. (Like, during the Mandalorian Wars, there was a total lack of interest until Taris was threatened.

the Core never cares, look at the NJO where it ignored a whole invasion for a full year until it hit its doorsteps. :p
