I'm currently using my phone/Tapatalk, so any mod can feel free to tag this as either a 'JCC' or 'Amph' thread. Anyway, me & buddy decided to go to the movies, but nothing looked appealing to us (we've seen everything appealing...American Reunion, The Hunger Games), so we settled on The Three Stooges. BAD idea...holy ****, why did people ever like that type of thing? Perhaps this re-make lost something in translation, but still. We both walked out after 15 minutes, and after unsuccessfully lobbying to get our money back, we snuck into a showing of 'The Cabin In The Woods'. It's got an interesting premise, but it's already full of stupid, ** horror/"young teen" movie cliches. Not a good a sign. And yes, I'm using my phone in a theater...in my defense, I'm sitting in one of far sides of this particular theater, so nobody can see/get distracted by my phone.
Dude, it's a set of Three Stooges. What were you expecting? (NOT "The Three Stooges", because they've all been dead for 40 years or so) (almost 60 years if you're like me and count the actual "death" of the Stooges as a comedy act when Shemp died and they brought in Joe)
Cabin in the Woods is supposed to be full of cliches, isn't it? Isn't that the idea, to then shatter them? I haven't seen it yet but had been wanting to. Also you're the absolute worst for using your phone in the theatre. Ugh.
This. There are arguments to be had about having your phone on and set to silent in a cinema, but there's absolutely no excuse whatsoever to be using your phone when the film is playing. The light from the screen alone is enough to make it unacceptable.
There's a big subplot to this film, though, that is very intriguing. That part has my attention. And Aytee, I don't know what we're thinking about The Stooges. The only "decent" part was Larry David playing a nun.
I'm going to make this very clear: Nobody was distracted by my phone. You know those 2 muppets, the old cranky ones up in a balcony setting (I believe)? I was sitting in a part like that.....and there was nobody behind us, and my buddy was sitting next to me, and he was next the aisle. If we had ended up sitting with other people, I wouldn't have used my phone. Anyway, The Cabin In The Woods turned out to be a great, great movie. See it.
I'm going to make this very clear: You can't know whether anyone was distracted, and you should be banned from the JC and permanently kicked out of that theater for posting on a messageboard while in the theater.
i hate this thread. what the **** are you doing. and also Cabin in the Woods is supposed to be awesome, what the hell are you going on about edit - oh i see you liked it. did you post that last part during the credits?
Cabin in the Woods was pretty good. I won't say anything about it plot-wise, but the tone and the dialogue were VERY Joss Whedon, so if you aren't a fan, you might not like it, and if you are you probably will.
Indeed. Using a phone in a theater is a special kind of sin, like murder or taking the last cookies without asking. You should be ashamed of yourself, Tunick. Glad you had some fun, though!
A. I guess I would tend to say you should obey existing rules of etiquette, and not use your phone if no one else is. Really, though, I don't understand why/when people got so exorcised over minor points like this. They are, in truth, minor distractions if anything. What is the big deal? B. This is a Joss Whedon film? Is it like his other work?
Movies that have been ruined for me by people using cell phones: Sherlock Holmes (the first Robert Downey Jr. one), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Tron: Legacy.
I have one bad experience like that. I was watching District 9, and the couple a few seats down suddenly started having a loud conversation and then texting. Highly annoying. The only reason why I didn't say anything was because I figured talking to them about it would distract me from the film more than just ignoring them as best I could would. Luckily they stopped after several minutes.
