Lit New Star Wars RPG from Fantasy Flight- Star Wars: Edge of the Empire

Snap. This sounds a helluva lot like a hybrid between WEG's D6 and WotC's D20. Interesting.

Oooh, I'm excited for this. Fantasy Flight is a great games publisher. They worked wonders with the 40k universe - the books themselves are works of art and they really managed to ground the games with a strong sense of the universe, something I feel the WotC stuff often lacked - it just felt like modified D&D in space with our fannishness to smear "Star Wars" all over the experience. I'll be really interested to see how this turns out. Maybe I'll even get my RPG group to play Star Wars again.

Which we haven't since that awesome, but shortlived, Jet Set Radio in Nar Shaddaa game we played, taggin' for the rebels... (No, it really didn't make much more sense than that if you were there...)

I thought the Saga books did a good job of IU lore (ignoring the infamous "Mon Mothma possessed by Exar Kun" slip-up in Jedi Academy Training Manual ...o_O ), but there was a lot of recycled art, and an (IMHO) regrettable lack of an NJO-to-LOTF-period sourcebook.

That said, the Saga rules are flexible enough to pretty much build any character you need (or adapt the RCR species stats for species not updated for Saga).

But, all things come to an end, and I wish Fantasy Flight the best. Any pen-and-paper RPG these days is a brave undertaking for a company, so getting an SW game out there in non-electronic form deserves =D=, IMHO.

(I just hope there isn't a need for tons of dice. But then, even the idea of "damage codes" makes my skin crawl. :p)

Has anyone ordered the Beta? I'd like to see some of the other art inside the book. The pics thus far are amazing.

I believe they've stated that there will be a lot of art in the final version, but not much in the beta.

I flipped through the book at CVI and can confirm that. The only new art that I recall was a lineup of species (human, Gand, Rodian, etc.)

So when is LFL going to break down and give us The Illustrated Guide to Miscellaneous Stuff & Scenes from the EU?

Yeah. For comparison, for their other RPG in beta, I believe they cut over a hundred pages of descriptive content that's in the final version.

It's pretty clear this isn't going to be like, say, Decipher's LOTR RPG - even the stripped text had some obscure EU references.
