So, my first Convention was Fan Days 2011 in Dallas, TX. We had such an amazing time, and because it was a great experience, my parents finally agreed on letting me go to the next Celebration. I had asked to go to ones before CVI, but they kept saying no, for different reasons.

I was finally able to go to Fan Days for my 20th birthday last year, (my bday is 10/18, Oct. 8-9 was close enough for us :) ) and I LOVED it.

Because we had such a good time, my mom was like "I'll consider Celebration VI, this was a lot better than I thought it would be, we might go as long as you don't have to miss any college for it."

So then the dates come, CVI is August 23rd, through August 26th.. My first day of my Junior year of College is August 20th.. I missed out by THREE days. I was / am still so upset :( I thought this was finally going to be my time to go.

I guess, my time will end up being CVII, whenever that may be, if it's in late 2014, I won't have to worry about college, because I'm scheduled to get my Bachelor's Degree in May of 2014. Who knows, maybe going to CVII could be my graduation present from my parents :)

That really suck, hopefully CVII will be your con

I work at an University and the con is during 'move in' weekend and the first day of school. I asked for it off the second i heard the dates last year and, thankfully, they are letting me go even though it's the busiest time of the year and I'm gonna be so behind when I get back. They really need to move those dates away from the start of school

Since we'll be travelling back home still on Monday, the 27th, my kids will miss their first day of high school. But I don't really have a problem with that since they don't really do anything the first day anyway. Yeah, I'm a great dad. ;)

I wish my parents were as cool as you are. They are like, so against me missing 3 days of college. I would fly out on Wednesday the 22nd, then fly back the following Monday. I only Have classes Monday - Thursday so I wouldn't have to worry about missing anything on Friday. But I'd still be missing Wednesday, Thursday, and Monday, which my mom was not okay with. I offered to only go to the Convention on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, then fly back on Sunday so I would be back in time for my Monday class, but they still said no. :/

Observation: Angela, your profile page says you're 20 years old. Analysis: Assuming that's correct, you're an adult. Suggestion: Stop letting your parents control your life and do what you want to do for once. ;)

Query: Why did I go HK-47 in this post?

Well, Angela, I must say that I'd probably side with your parents too. College is different from high school. Plus, they're paying BIG money to send you to college. Make it count. If it was further into the school year, I probably wouldn't allow my kids to miss that much school. It's only because it's just the first day that I'm allowing it.

I wish it were that easy. But I don't have a job, college has been really hard on me, and it's hard enough to keep a B average with just focusing on my classes (I made mostly As in High School, Graduated with Honors, which is where you never have below a 3.5 GPA.) So dropping to an all B average with a Couple of Cs student was a big deal for me). Because I don't have a job, my parents are paying for my tuition ($4000 / year out of pocket), they don't want me taking out so many Student Loans, that I am loaded with debt when I get my first real job, so because they still pay for the majority of my stuff, and I still live at home when I am not on campus for class during the school year, I still have to answer to them first.

Which, that isn't so bad, because I will only have 2 more years of this, then I can get a good job using my degree, with no huge bills to start paying off immediately, and I can use the $ I will make from that on whatever I want, like going to Celebration VII.

Well, since your parents are paying for your tuition, I can see where they would have some leverage. I got financial aid when I went to school, and at various points, I left to go to conventions. Needless to say, my grades weren't that good. :p

I think the sooner you are able to secure even a simple part-time grunt work job, the sooner your folks will cut you some slack, as you'll be proving your independence to them. But, since they finance a majority of your life, then I can't really blame them for exerting some control. Though... save up some money while you can, nonetheless. And since you are a legal adult, there's the option of sneaking out. I've driven my folks nuts when I would call them from another state. :p

I just picked up an application at Gamestop today while at the mall. they said they will be hiring a whole new staff in august. i told them i could only work on friday-sunday if i got hired and they said "good, we need weekend workers the most" . so hopefully that might be a chance for a part time job :)

I thought I was going to be able to make it but I'm going to be swamped with work that week.

I'm hoping that C7 will be sometime other than the last weekend in August. It's not a good time of year for me at all.

Come on, Lucasfilm, you know you want to do this in, say, mid-July...
