That it resembles Bendis' take on the character?? Yes. Double Yes. Yes to infinity. The animated series that's followed has been a poor showing so far and ultimately disappointing, which is heartbreaking because its at least partly responsible for the cancelation of the best Spidey animated series to date, Spectacular Spider-Man. TM: I am only half joking about the title. I wouldn't actually expect them to change it, but to be frank it does seems to have more in common with Ult Spidey than its name sake at this point.
Reports indicate Orci and Kurtzman are now working on Amazing Spider-Man sequel, set to start filming early 2013.
That sounds like a bit...early. Considering the film isn't even out yet and nobody knows how it'll perform.
I like that their resume includes Star Trek, but the mention of the Transformers movies made me wince a little bit. Actually, it made my ass pucker somewhat, which might be more than a wince, but you get the point.
Yes, those two should also be confined to the same circle of hell Michael Bay will dwell in once they meet their doom, if only for their part in those dreadful movies. And it's not like their Star Trek was a masterpiece either. It was ok upon the first viewing. But just that, "ok". And they really need to get the "science" part down pat before they try to do yet another SF script, Star Trek or otherwise.
From my understanding many of the script problems with Transformers came not from Orci and Kurtzman, but Michael Bay. IIRC it lead to a rather rocky working relationship between the three of them and eventually O&K chose not to return for one of the sequels (can't recall which).
Perhaps. The idiocy throughout all Bayformers seemed to be extremely exaggerated, more the influence of a director notorious for that crap than of the writers themselves. Still, that doesn't get 'em a reprieve as far as I'm concerned.
Nor was I suggesting it does. Frankly I've not been terribly impressed with anything they've done so far, and don't hold out much hope for them with this. But I feel that they take a bit of a bad rap for Bayformers, and though they played their part, my understanding was that they were mostly servicing a larger ego. Then again this could go through several drafts between now and then, other writers brought on. That's not unusual especially on a franchise of this scale.
Its being reported now that a new trailer will be included with The Avengers. So the first comic book movie of the year will have a new look at the two other big comic book movies of the summer. Should be exciting.
If Marvel gets back the Spider-Man rights, they should be smart and say "You know what, let's take a hint from Burton's first Batman film. They've already had the origin twice in fifteen years." Then you can carry on without it being tiring. After maybe four films, enough to establish him on his own and working with SHIELD for a while, kill him and bring in Miles Morales. Nobody will see it coming. Unless, you know, they actually read the comics...or visit this thread...but the element of surprise could still be there if they deliberately do not follow the Ultimate storyline. Eh, whatever. Awesome news about the new trailer being released with the Avengers.
404'd. I really don't believe it's 90 minutes. It's gotta be longer. Every single superhero movie in recent memory has been somewhere around 2 hours.
Sometimes it doesn't hurt a film to have a tighter running time. Its slightly brow-raising that it would run so relatively short, I certainly hope they didn't cut the heart out of it (assuming that they aren't lacking in compelling content), but if it helps the over-all pacing to excise the fat from a longer cut to make a lean story, I am all for it.
That running time is a bit brow raising, considering many recent comic book movies -- and, unless I'm mistaken, all Raimi Spidey films -- run considerably longer than that. But other than that I can't say that's truly a good thing or a bad thing without seeing the thing.
Short running time means they can focus on the important aspects. Too many films with long running times have padding and over-long scenes (usually battle ones, I'm looking at you Bayformers 3) that aren't needed.
I would agree that short run time can mean a tight, contained film. But it does seem on the short side, considering that they're trying to do a complete origin story as well as some treatment of a separate, present-day conflict.
According to recent interviews with the director the story of the origin and the mystery of his parents is meant to play out over a few films, not be contained to a single story.
