It's been 2 days now since I've seen this film, and I can't get over just how incredibly great it was. As someone who didn't read any of the comics (then again, I don't read comics), and only saw Iron Man & The Incredible Hulk, I'd figure I'd be lost in a few scenes here & there, but I wasn't. Now I've got a real interest in seeing Thor, Captain America, & Iron Man 2. I haven't felt like this about a movie of this type since The Dark Knight. Even during 2 Laker playoff games (well, 1 & half, as the game tonight is at halftime) my mind keeps floating to many Avengers (particularly the one scene where everyone is **** talking each other before Hawkeye's assault) scenes.
Coulson had many good lines- his F-22 bit on the phone was fantastic, and while the "Even I don't know" line got a good reaction, just his casual delivery of a seemingly mundane line preceding that, "Step away, please." actually got a bigger audience response. Unrelated but of interest, Acura has a sweepstakes website game at shieldops.com, it has an intro video featuring Agent Sitwell. There's also a prelude video to it with Sitwell in it as well: The games themselves are kinda horrible (I only played the repulsor cannon one, but it seems that if you try to actively play it, you will lose very quickly, but you do better if you wait for the game to tell you what to do- however that time delay results in making the goal score an impossibility by more than half), and the majority of it is an obvious Acura commercial, but, some of the weapon/tech info is kinda interesting.
Can't help but wonder if we can't somehow convince Hasbro to fire Michael Bay and hire Joss Whedon and Jon Favreau for any future Transformers movies. Because while I LOVE this movie....it makes me even more angry about what we could have had with Optimus and Co.
Well, he has a very thuggish attitude. Although I'm told that in the comics, Zeus beat the ever living snot out of the Hulk in a fistfight, so at least we know where things stand there.
Yeah, the different pantheons exist in the MU. Thor and the Asgardians are obvious Norse mythology, while Hercules, Ares, etc (Olympians) are from the Greek/Roman pantheons. Others exist too, but those are the two most prominent.
Finally saw this movie tonight. I love it. I can't help how much I adore RDJ as Iron Man. I think he outdid himself in this movie. Also I liked a heck of a lot of posts in this thread and second most of what others have said.
Yep. My only experience with Marvel comics, in fact, is the "Incredible Hercules" series which--as you might expect--does a lot of Olympian stuff. My favorite character in such is actually Athena, rather than Thor.
Well, first -- don't spell it like me; I'm a Jew. All SHA- sounds automatically get translated to SCH- to me. So it's actually shawarma. Second, it's very similar to gyro, doner kebab, etc. (and in some places, I believe are used interchangably) -- but subtly different, usually in topping, wrapping or spicing.
I only had two extremely minor problems with the Avengers. They don't affect the movie in any way, but just my two cents. 1. Cap's costume looks like a set of hoodie pajamas when he's wearing the headpiece. The fact that his ears are covered makes it even more comical. 2. I would have loved to see Don Cheadle at some point. I mean...an alien invasion in one of most populated cities in North America, with an enemy force so big that it includes giant armor-plated alien dragons, and the government actually attempts a nuclear strike..and the only armed forces that respond are the National Guard? Surely Rhodey and the USAF would have been there too, especially after the Hammeroid incident. He wouldnt even HAVE to be in the War Machine armor. Just get him on the helicarrier's bridge with Fury and Hill. I don't think we can call it a "scene".
I'm pretty sure it was established that the problem was getting people there quickly. Contrary to popular belief the entirety of the Armed forces is not ready to deploy anywhere in America within an hour of an invasion beginning.
I'm not sure anyone has mentioned it yet, but I just wanted to say that I was thrilled by Harry Dean Stanton's cameo.
Yeah- as useful as War machine would have been, Rhodey is based in California, so it'd be several hours before he could get to NYC- even if Stark had called him in en route to Stark Tower. However, the news coverage does mention that Army forces do help during the attack, so it's not just Nation Guard down there- they just didn't get there until towards the end. The lack of Air Force presence, though, is a bit odd- but they may have conceivably been held back by the council, knowing a nuclear strike was imminent.
Stantons's cameo was great. I just wonder if there was more to the scene then we actually saw. To call Staton up for such a simple scene seems so trivial. It has to be extended.
