Honestly I don't understand the 'meh' attitude I keep hearing about this. From the trailers Anne Hathaway appears to be doing a wonderful Selina/Catwoman. Tom Hardy seems to be playing a terrific Bane that captures his brute force, his intellect, and the terror he evokes. We seem to have a Knightfall/No Man's Land story which has me very interested.

I'm just worried that people are going to make this some self-fulfilling prophecy where they'll say it was a let down no matter what. I've liked all the trailers so far, I feel they are a lot more emotional than the Dark Knights were.

They probably are. The only difference is one of the actors in the film didn't unexpectedly die in the meantime.

I cannot wait, I too think the trailers look exciting; in a darker way, yes. Like @Condition2SQ said, this isn't someone's tragic last great movie, so interest has been down, certainly. Like I said, I'm excited. Can't wait!

Maybe Christian Bale or Anne Hathaway should dissapear or outright fake thier deaths for a few months if that's what needed to jumpstart interest into this thing. :p

Other than that, maybe people are simply leery of a third movie for this particular franchise. More often than not, the third part of a trilogy turns out to be dissapointing if not outright sucky (and boy if that didn't happen just recently with the third outing of another favorite franchise, albeit in a different medium). Given this, it's not surprising that some folks (myself included) may prefer the very high note of TDK rather than face such dissapointment with TDKR.

Clearly The Avengers has had the desired effect then...

I was not at all excited for any of the movies in this Trilogy. In every case I was completely surprised by how good the movie was. I don't know what it is about their advertising, but I've yet to see a Nolan-Batman trailer that didn't underwhelm me completely. Then again, I can accept that. I'd rather go in with low expectations and be blown away than rush out to see The Green Lantern...

TDKR will not survive the Catwoman curse.

    ^SPECULATION

Edit: Also, Batman Returns is awesome.

You're gonna have to explain this one...

If you want to torpedo a movie, include a "Catwoman" character. It's so inviolable a rule that it's almost a law of physics.
  11. Souderwan Jedi Grand Master

Umm..whut? Michelle Pfeiffer was unbelievably awesome in Batman Returns. And last I checked, Batman Returns is largely well-regarded.

Also, if you want a movie to bomb, put Ann Hathaway in it. Combine Catwoman and Ann Hathaway in one movie and you have a curse as powerful and unbreakable as the one in Drag Me to Hell.

Also: read Hathaway's acccount of why she was sure she was auditioning for Harley Quinn and not Catwoman (HINT: because Pfeiffer is awesome).

This is proof of the Jabba curse. This is where if your username has Jabba in it, you're probably one can short of a sixpack.

Plus you know, you discount all the TV Catwomans when you go on about a "Catwoman curse." One bad movie with Hallie Berry does not a Curse make.

There's probably more people who like it than people who don't but I wouldn't say it's largely well regarded.
  17. Souderwan Jedi Grand Master

78% on Rotten Tomatoes and largely well-received critically at the time. I also don't remember much about anyone saying it sucked. I think it was pretty well regarded.

It certainly aged better than Superman: The Movie.

Well, I just remember when Batman Begins came out a lot of people were like, "FINALLY! A GOOD BATMAN MOVIE!" :p

Anyone see the TV spot? It was clips from the most recent trailer then, at the end,
a valet tells Bruce that his wife took his vehicle. And then it shows Selina driving and speeding in his car. Then it flashes back to Bruce who says, "My wife?" and the commercial ends.
It might be chuckle worthy in the context of the entire movie, but in the commercial it came off corny.

Well, that's true. But I think that was more a reaction to the craptastic movies that followed Batman Returns. By the time we got to Batman Begins, the first two movies were a pretty distant memory. Remember that Batman Begins came out a full 13 yrs after Batman Returns. That's like a generation in the movie world. :p

Plus. Batman Begins is a way better movie. That's just a fact. :p
