Oh please. This is something we can back and forth about forever, but calling the Mandalorians (a fringe culture at best which members of course are the best at, well, everything) the "third blade" and calling them the "most formidable enemy" to the Jedi is just one of the things that's proving my point (and I'm not going to discuss this particular point any further, we've been there already).

Not that overtly fond of Karen Traviss to be honest. And the "most formidable enemy" is definitely a stretch.

So Dave Filoni is dropping hints of
    Satine's possible death.

I kind of expected this, and having it happen would probably go a long way towards restoring Mandalorian continuity. It won't fix everything without
    Spar and Fenn
being thrown in somewhere, but it should be enough to pave the way for what we had previously established.

Yeah, Traviss is a good writer.....but she didn't understand Star Wars at all IMO.

"Sorrow can be so sweet sometimes." - Dave Filoni re: Obi and Satine's relationship.

From the front page newsstory about Star Wars Weekend. It's not explicit, but when combined with other rumors, it does lead one to wonder.

Fine, then I'll also make my last post on this point.
The Mandalorians were hardly a fringe culture. They were certainly not as well developed, but neither were they obscure. And calling them the third blade is not as far-fetched as you seem to think. The Jedi and Sith are ancient, expansive orders, comprised of members from any species and gender that are willing to follow their code, with a significant martial presence. As are the Mandalorians. Aside from the prehistoric conflicts between the likes of the Rakata, the Killiks, and the Celestials, every major war in the galaxy has been a Jedi/Sith conflict, save for two: the Yuuzhan Vong War and the Mandalorian Wars. Other than the Vong, the Mandalorians are the only non Force-sensitive foe to successfully challenge the entire Republic.
And being the most "formidable enemy of the Jedi"? Of course the Sith are the most formidable enemy of the Jedi. However, that line was said in a period of time when there were no Sith in the galaxy, and by a character discussing potential threats and assets to the Vong. A present threat is always more formidable than a currently theoretical one, and besides, Vergere was hyping the Mandalorians as potential Vong allies against the Jedi.

And yet many long time Star Wars fans somehow enjoy her Star Wars work. If you don't like it, that's just fine. But I think it's highly presumptuous to say that she didn't understand Star Wars when—objectively speaking as a long time reader of Star Wars, myself, and a fan of the works of so many other authors including Matt Stover and James Luceno—Traviss' work fit in just fine in a universe with so many varied aspects.

I'm as big a Karen Traviss fan as most(and when the main boards come back up you can look at the pages worth of debates I had on the subject with folks) and I think its fair to say that not everything Karen wrote worked on every level.

There is no correct way to write Star Wars, thirty years worth of authors, directors and other creative types contributing to the franchise prove that. What doesn't work for someone might work very well for someone else.

That said if I was the Vong coming into the galaxy the Mandalorians would be of little concern. With next to no capital ships, fighters, infrastructure or population they would be little more than a passing curiousity. Mandalore could have been bombarded into dust from orbit. Yes, I think the Vong would have some interest in fighting Mandalorians as they would likely(and did even) view them as worthy opponents, but from a grand tactical sense there was nothing there for them to worry about.

Civilizations like the Imperial Remnant or the Hapans would be of concern to the Vong as secondary opponents way more than the Mandalorians would be.

Of course the nice thing with Vergere is that everything she tells you is a lie.............I'd like to think that Vergere was simply trying to distract the Vong in her own special way.

Not only that but didn't Jango kill the krayt after it ate Gardulla, or is that incorrect/part of the game-play? I loved the game probably far-longer than I should have but it's still been a while since I played it.

The way Karen Traviss subtly changed the Mandalorians was annoying, but it is insignificant next to the destructive power of TCW.

And by the way, sorry to spoil the fun for you, George and Dave, but Darth Maul was killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi on Naboo in 32 BBY by a combination of the sai tok bisection and fall into the melting pit, didn't you guys see that in TPM?

It makes you wonder what will happen when GL lets Kathleen Kennedy take the reigns at Lucasfilm. He'll retire to his garage, apparently, so he may not interfere that much in TCW or the rest of the EU after that.

    I'm guessing more Filoni autonomy.

We shall see, I'm always skeptical about GL announcing his retirement, feels like its already happened multiple times since I started posting on LACWAC which is just about a year and a half.

I disagree, there's a hierarchy of power in creating TCW, and not all levels of the hierarchy are equally to blame when things happen you may not like.

For some specific things, like the return of Darth Maul, we've learned through interviews which level of the hierarchy is, in fact, to blame.
