I'll be truthful: one of the reasons I didn't bother to sign up for the temp forums until just now is that I didn't see an RPF section. Then I started to read Darth Plagueis - which is bloody incredible - and began to miss you all enough to check again. Thanks for the welcome, Saint! I look forward to the chance to play alongside you again... I'm still interested in a character-based game centering around a family or other unit and ultimately building towards action and violence.
Great to see you about BobaMatt! Glad you could make it, and I look forward to reading your posts again.
Yup, a few are going slowly but they are being played. There is: The Tempest of Fears games by Saint, Origins of Republic by Chukles, Castaways by KiraRomar aka Sirak, Voyage of the Hammer by MatthewMartin, Intervention by Bravo, A War of Kings by Spycoder9, and supposidly a few others but they are too slow to count at the moment
Howdy and welcome back, Matt. As your moderator I am obliged to point out the usual social thread here: http://boards.theforce.net/xentemp/...foil-cover-polybagged-temp-boards-edition.64/ Although I think inquiries about active games might be kosher here? I dunno, I'm playing a little fast and loose with the what goes where rules.
Well, Tron could be freed into the larger galaxy by his involvement in Kingdom Hearts, which has space travel, which pulls Disney and Final Fantasy characters into space.
Not to mention, since Marvel is canon every possibility is canon by virtue of alternate universe travel being possible. So clearly there's a universe where Tron isn't stuck in the server.
There is that Great, now I have SIX to choose from! Choices, choices. Either way on either limb though I still will be =
I expect I'll include a line allowing for a maximum of... three characters. Or two? Depends on how mean I am.
Well, I´d say you gotta be careful with franchises . . . a bit at least. At one point a game is no longer interesting, but becomes bizarre when too strange things are mixed. The old "Doctor Manhattan is not a playable character" problem could show up, if thereare no limitations. And concerning the scale, the question is how many players are still around?Nowadays our biggest games got ten players. ASotS had only twelve. so this might be more managable than expected. At least in the beginning.
War of Kings has about 15, I think? So I think if you have a well enough concept, you should recruit enough people. I know a lot of people are just lurking, waiting for a good game to play. Matt is an example. And this looks like an open enough game that people would like to play. I would join right away if I wasn't about to open another game.
Or worse - the Flash. Speaking from the benefit of hindsight, limits are going to be important. Where they're enforced behind the scenes via the PM process or up front is up to you, though a general "I will not be allowing characters with godlike powers" disclaimer is probably not a bad idea.
I think 15 players is moderate for a Sinre game Oh new games! Ah, pains me to see future projects. Anyway, I´ll throw in my two cents if it´s okay. The Good: The idea is very solid. A good way to "combine" popular universe. Using the "stargates" in their various incarnations is smart. Mass Effect, Stargate, Star Wars, EVE,Babylon 5 they all have them in a way or another. So that kinda binds many franchises together. Also most franchiseshave military undertones so I could see the Stargate Egyptians and the Empire and the Shadows, cooporations from EVE and Thanos from Marvelmovieverse fight or ally and the good being confronted with them. That gives me a lot of ideas and ideas are the blood of any game. The freedom to play lesser known or lesser "served" characters might be motivation for many. I think the concept is very tight and might work well. The Bad: The OP might need to be split up. A bit too much text for my taste. A bit too unfocussed. Then there is the "lack of familiarity" problem. For GMs and players alike. It is hard to interact with someone from . . . "Appleseed" or "Battle Angel Alita" or "Wing Commander" if I only know these franchises from Wikipedia and occassional encounters. Especially I think they are hard to GM. But that can be worked around. Maybe limiting it to Sci-Fi or Sci + games or something would give you a bit more control without loosing too much attractivity for players? Just an idea. And yes, this could turn into a "God"-game too easy. I can see Dr. Manhattan and Superman rip apart fleets of villians. No fun for villian players. So there needs to be a power limit. Or strict approval policy. I heard Sirak and Ramza had the deal Sirak´s Superman would "never find the motivation to solve the other players problems". That could work, but needs a lot of cooperation. The Ugly: Oh man, I can think of so many ugly things Espeically ugly mix-ups and plots. A Jedi on Dune alone . . . uniting Fremen and fighting . . . an evil EVE cooperation trying to get their hands on SPICE . . . the ugly part might be the best. Truly ugly it becomes when it turns too bizarre. Gandalf fighting Dark Jedi? Conan working with Hutts? At some point atmosphere becomes a bit messy. Again, I´d say limit it to comics and Sci-Fi. Like Bad Day limited it to action heroes. Something like that. That being said, balancing is key, I´d say. Godmodding must be strictly controlled. Players must be roughly equal and this might just work very fine. Good luck with it!
Just logging in to say I've got a subject for discussion, so when we're finished up here I'd like to request the floor.
One other item, on a tangent: I note darthboba's tagline is "Only a Prime can defeat Vader and his Emperor." Coincidence...?
I just want to test an idea or two here after Saint - anyone opposed to me snagging the next opening?
Okay, I´d say it´s time for one of my favourites. A to-do-list. RPF Game Guild To-Do List: 1. Saintheart´s next 2. Peng´s game 3. Open . . . for whoever wants to grab it.
