I'd say it might be possible to find people not aware of this. Granted I'm on the other side of the country, but if I didn't listen to radio while I'm in the car, I'd really not know much of anything about it. So, it's feasible.

Related story, and I wonder what attention this would be getting if the Trayvon Martin incident wasn't going on in Florida, is that recently police shot an unarmed teen (also black) after a reported armed robbery. Kendrec McDade was unarmed when he was shot by police, and they arrested the person who reported the crime for allegedly making false statements that led to the shooting. I think there's substantive differences between the two, but the coverage here it is getting often compares it to Martin's shooting, largely because of the timing and the (I think) superficial similarities.

That "gash" could just as easily be hair on his head from an improperly shaved skull. :p

I hadn't heard about that case, but yes, I think there are more differences than similarities. I think it's a bit insulting and ridiculous for people to try and connect them, in fact.

The guy that made the 911 call in the McDade situation is being charged with involuntary manslaughter because he lied that the teen was armed with a gun to get the police to respond faster.

Rush Limbaugh today tried to make it all look like a liberal conspiracy headed up by MSNBC. Beck was doing the same last week but it was all a plan from Obama.

I have two, and I'm a middle-aged white woman who can't stand to wear anything on her head unless her ears are freezing off.

As far as Rush and Beck, there's not an eye-roll emoticon big enough. When you run out of evidence, yell "conspiracy by the liberal media!" and you suddenly validate your points. Not.

Do you just listen to him so you have someone to be angry at? I'm conservative and I never listen to Rush. I don't get it.

CNN, FOX, MSNBC, Rush, Beck, Buzzfeed headlines, Fark, thse are my major inputs. 1. No one can claim I do not listen to "the other side". 2. It's good exercise in the detection of nonsense.

I enjoy The Five on FOX but that's about the limit of my ability to tolerate political punditry. News should be news.

The Daily Show is the only credible news source left in the world of television.

In terms of television news, I'd agree. Jon Stewart himself would protest that it's "fake news," but I don't think that's true. They usually get the facts right and make it obvious when they're just joking. However, it's ultimately more a satire of news organizations and politics. ~15 minutes of news content simply isn't enough, and they don't necessarily pick which stories to cover based on importance, but based upon how funny they can make those stories.

Though the correspondent pieces tend to be the most dubious segments in terms of factual content, I like the super-long one John Oliver did recently.

Jon Stewart is going to be broadcasting 15 minutes from my house during the DNC. [face_party]

I get my news from the AP news app, a few newspaper apps, and NPR. I'll listen to the MSNBC pundits but they're usually confirming what I already think.

The treatment of Daily Show and Colbert Report as credible news sources always irks me.

That's an inaccurate assessment of Rush. He doesn't do that when he runs out of evidence, he STARTS his analysis of a problem with blaming liberals. Even in situations where he has evidence to be right.
  19. anakinfansince1983 Shelf of Shame "Winner"

    Yeah, that's true.

And retrospect, I should add a qualifier on that. I listen to parts of Rush's show on average probably about 2-4 times a month. So this isn't a "I read he does that on the internet" sort of thing.
