Will the Whills ever show up in the EU at all?

They are the aliens that wrote The Journal of the Whills thats chronicles the Star Wars saga, first appearing in the novelization of ANH, they have been watching and recording galactic history for a long time, Qui-Gon Jinn had contact with them because he tells Yoda in the ROTS screenplay and novelization that a shaman of the Whills taught him how to become one with the force and that it was the ultimate goal of the Sith Lords, he even says in the Junior Novelization of ROTS that Darth Plagueis's story was true in a way but that eternal life can only be achieved by a Jedi and it requires the release of self and not the exhaltation of the self, it will never achieved by a Sith Lord, its weird that Qui-Gon knew about Darth Plagueis's quest.

But it would be nice to see a story where Qui-Gon meets with them and learns from them, or to see them appear in Dawn of the Jedi as an ancient species like the Celestials and Killiks and Rakata, one that was once prominent and then declined or went into hiding, they still exist in the present time but keep a low profile, some even say that they are Yoda's species but it has never been confirmed.

Maybe we already saw them, in the Mortis arc of TCW?

Good question, @Joe_Garelli! Qui-Gon Jinn learning how to become a Force ghost from a Shaman of the Whills is a story that needs to be told. Such a story would be a great companion to Darth Plagueis, and I haven't even got to read it yet.
    "No, Nooooo!"

Perhaps the Whills can remain unique in their status as the last unexplained mystery of the Star Wars mythos.....

....aw, who am I kidding? They're going to turn out to be Celestials or something.

No! Dear God no! The Whills are as close to Apocrypha as SW mythos gets, let them stay mysterious and in the background.

Part of me likes the idea of the Whills remaining a mystery, while a part of me really wants to find out more about them.

I say, no, they were lost with bane. Yoda was around then so maybe he saw them but was still a padawan so he couldn't have it.

    When there's a Whill, there's a way.

    If the Force Whill's it...

It turns out the Whills are actually Judeo-Christian angels. The denizens of the Star Wars galaxy were in Purgatory the whole time.

    What a twist!
  11. Lugija Jedi Master

Hard to be them, on the account of them being dead during ANH. Unless it was all Purgatory. Or epileptic trees. Something like that. San Hill lives.

I'm on the "let it be a mystery"-train. But just to make it a better mystery, there should be some very small references to them time to time. Like when someone is on Fool's Errand, someone could say "You are looking for Whills there". It has to be built up, not just mentioned in some future novel that "Oh yeah, Yoda's species is Whill".

But if we ever see one of them, he should be sketched after Alan Dean Foster.

Voren Na'al says the Journal is still being written in post-Yavin times, so they can't be Celestials (at least not the three from TCW).
  13. CmdrMitthrawnuruodo Jedi Master

Um just because someone is still around to write a book does not necessarily mean they cannot be of the Celestials. It just means that some of them might not have ascended into the Force or that some of them might have returned to the corporeal plane.

Besides the galaxy calls that race the "Celestials" cause no one knows what or who the hell they are. Just like the humans and Goa'uld call the ascended Alterans the "Ancients" in Stargate SG-1. An ancient race of mystery, the builders of galaxies, who learned and ascended to a higher plane of existence.

And frankly, the Celestials smack of the Ancients. Someone over in Lucasbooks has to be a Stargate fan. :D

since when was Voren Naal the right answer always? :p

I hope they stay a mystery. if not, they need to be tied into celestials but not be celestials. Yoda's race please!!! or that other race from the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy, the one mentioned to be 4-dimensional experiencing time etc. different from all other species, but living a harmless live among the galactic citizens.. as if watching and noting instead of taking action^^
  15. The Phantom Calamari Jedi Master

Whoa whoa whoa what? I don't remember this at all. I guess I must have skipped one of the BHW books.
  16. ceiranharmony Jedi Master

it was mentioned in passing.. but I ever since loved it ;)

    ah, http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cephalon
it was Coruscant Nights and Shadow Games. but something similiar was in Bounty Hunter Wars too.. another species. Will search for it ;)
  17. Arawn Fenn Force Ghost

If that's purgatory sign me up!
  18. CmdrMitthrawnuruodo Jedi Master

Ditto. As long as I get to have fun with the Force, I'll happily repent for my sins there. :D
  19. Tzizvvt78 Jedi Master

Hence my clarification in the spoiler. :p
