	If anyone says otherwise, I would like to continue posting parts of my story Chapter 3 I was outside practicing my fighting techniques and Vanessa was in the woods picking berries. Suddenly, I saw her running towards me, “Vanessa!” I smiled at her, but I saw that she wasn’t smiling at me back, “What’s the matter? Why are you out of breath?” “Jack, I need to talk to you.” “Let’s go inside.” We went inside and sat down on the bed. I took her trembling hands in mine, “Now, what is it you wanted to tell me? Are you pregnant,” my heart skipped a beat waiting for her reply. “I’m sorry, but no.” I felt like a black veil had been placed over my head, darkening my hopes. “Jack, I’m sorry to tell you this, but I have to go back home.” “But you are home.” “I mean I have to go back to my father’s castle.” I felt like someone was ripping my heart from my chest, “Why?” “It’s hard to explain.” I had to know why, “You can tell me.” “Jack, you wouldn’t understand. I just have to go back, for my father’s sake.” That did it for me. Tears began to fill my eyes, but I didn’t want her to see me cry, so I quickly turned away from her. I didn’t know what to do or say. I was upset, mad, and depressed. I didn’t know what else to do, so I told her, “Go.” She looked hurt, “What?” This time the anger took over and I yelled, “I said go,” I paused, trying to calm myself down, “If it’s that important, I don’t want to stand in your way.” She stood up, gave me a hug, and whispered in my ear, “I love you.” I thought what was I supposed to say, I love you, too? I couldn’t say it, not now that she was leaving me. I believed that if she really loved me she wouldn’t leave me, so I didn’t say anything. She quietly waited a couple of minutes to see if I was going to say anything. When I didn’t, she walked out the door. I sat there for a couple of minutes and then I quickly jumped up and went out the door. I watched her walk out into the woods. Even though I knew she couldn’t hear me, I still whispered, “I love you, too.” A day later, I got word that the King had died and that Vanessa was now the Queen. I decided to go into town to hear the speech, the now Queen, was giving. When I arrived at the palace, there were hundreds of people crowded around a balcony of the castle looking up expectantly. Shortly, Vanessa came out onto the balcony. She was all painted up and I could tell she was very uncomfortable wearing all that stuff. She tried her best not to let the crowd know that she was uncomfortable. Vanessa announced, “Ladies and Gentlemen, the King is dead,” everybody gasped. Vanessa calmly reassured the crowd with her next statement, “As the King’s daughter, I will be your new Queen.” Everybody cheered, but me. People were shouting, “Long live, Queen Vanessa.” She then turned and stepped out of view and back into the castle. Later, without being noticed, I searched around outside the castle looking for the balcony to her room. Finally, I came to a balcony with the curtains blowing out into the wind. I could faintly hear two female voices inside. It suddenly became quiet and then Vanessa walked out onto the balcony. I quickly moved into the shadows where she couldn’t see me, but I could see her. She was so very beautiful. “Jack, I miss you so much,” I heard her say. I thought she had somehow seen me, but then I realized she was just talking out loud. I decided to stand there and listen to her. “I never meant to hurt you and I didn’t want to leave you. There’s nothing I would love more than to be in your arms tonight.” My heart went to my throat as I longed to reach out to her, but it dropped to my stomach as I heard her next words, “But I can’t. By my father’s wishes, I am now exiled here forever,” she sighed, “I still love you, Jack, wherever you are.” I wanted to yell out I still love you too, but I didn’t even though my heart was breaking. Then with tears in my eyes, I stood and watched her walk back into her room… “Was this the last time you saw her, Jack?” “No, I went to her balcony every night and waited. She would always come out at night. One night I even got to hold her one last time… Several months later, I found out that there was a party to be held at the castle. I went to the castle to watch her from outside the window. Later in the night, Vanessa walked outside to the garden and I listened as she was approached by her Lieutenant and was asked, “You’re not thinking of running away again are you?” I listened intently for her answer. Vanessa looked at the Lieutenant, “No, not this time.” I then heard the Lieutenant recall the night that Vanessa ran away, “I remember the first time you ran away. You didn’t think anyone was around, but I was. I watched as you ran into the woods and I followed you. I watched as a group of people surrounded you. I was about to reveal my hiding place, but then I heard the young man say that he was not going to hurt you. I followed them as they carried you back to their home. I followed and kept watch in the woods that night. I waited there until I saw you the next morning come out with the young man. I then followed you both to the waterfall and listened to the conversation you were having. I heard you tell him that you didn’t want to be the Queen. I told myself I would not tell your father, but I would continue to keep my eye on you. A few days later, your father sent a solider out to look for you. I told the solider where to go, but not to get too close. I told him if he were caught to pretend that he was just wandering through the woods, so people wouldn’t realize that he knew where the secret village was. I knew you would come back someday.” “What if I had not,” Vanessa asked. The Lieutenant looked at her, “Then I would have made you come back.” “Why? Why couldn’t my sister be the Queen?” “Because your sister has changed. She is evil.” “What do you mean, evil? Did you follow her months ago when she left?” “Yes, I did.” “What did you see?” “I followed your sister into the woods; where she began practicing some form of black magic, her face twisted and deformed. She frightened me so much that I ran away. As I was running, I could hear her laughing. Somehow she knew that I had followed her because I heard her say, ‘You better go back to your Queen Vanessa before I kill her!’” Vanessa couldn’t believe what she was hearing, “My God! Why does my sister want to kill me?” “Apparently, she wanted to be crowned Queen.” “If she wants it so badly, she can have the throne.” The Lieutenant called out loudly, “No!” “Why?” “Your sister practices black magic. If your sister had become Queen, she would have destroyed this kingdom. Your father wanted to tell you this before he died, but didn’t get the chance.” “Now I understand why he wanted me to be Queen. I will just have to be very careful to avoid my sister.” “Don’t worry. I’ll protect you.” Suddenly, I saw something coming from the woods. It was a very pale woman with black hair, ruby red lips, and wearing a black low cut dress. She was riding a black stallion; she rode right up to Vanessa and the Lieutenant. The Lieutenant stood in front of Vanessa to shield her from the woman and I heard him ask, “What do you want, Amber?” The woman called Amber jumped off her horse and approached the pair, “I just wanted to talk to my sister…alone.” Her sister, I thought to myself, unbelievable. “I’m sorry, but I can’t allow that,” the Lieutenant insisted. Amber held up her hand in front of the Lieutenant, “You will allow it. Now, go back inside.” I couldn’t believe my eyes, the Lieutenant looked like a zombie and said, “Yes, ma’am,” and walked back inside. Amber walked up to stand in front of Vanessa, “Now then….” “What do you want, Amber?” “Just to talk.” “Then stop walking and talk.” That’s my girl. I had trained her well. Amber stopped and smirked, “My aren’t we the feisty one. Very well then, I really didn’t come here to talk.” Vanessa was becoming impatient with her sister, “Then what did you come for?” “I’ve come to kill you,” Amber yelled as she raised her sword over her head. I grabbed my sword, but still waited in the shadows, believing that she would use the skill I had taught her. Vanessa stumbled backwards, but kept her balance, “Why?” Amber looked her square in the eye and spat out, “Because I hate you.” “But why Amber, I never did anything to you.” “You took away the power that I deserved! I should have been crowned Queen, not you,” Amber raised her sword higher to continue her attack. I ran out of the shadows to defend Vanessa, but by the time I got there she had stumbled backwards and had fallen to the ground unconscious. I realized that Amber was about to bring her sword down on Vanessa, so I got in front of her and our swords clashed. Amber was stunned, “Who the hell are you?” I didn’t say anything to her, but just fought back against her. She screamed and lifted her sword again, so I stabbed my sword into her side. She stood there for a second glaring at me. Finally, being wounded and feeling defeated, she got back on her horse and rode away. I returned to Vanessa and found her unconscious, so I held her there in my arms for a few moments. I knew sooner or later that the Lieutenant was going to come out of his trance and come back outside. I looked at her soft, smooth face and I kissed her on the lips. “I love you,” I whispered. I gently laid her back down and hid in the shadows waiting for the Lieutenant to return. A few moments later he returned and I heard him ask, “My Lady, are you okay?” She began to move again, and as she sat up she said, “I’m fine. I just hit my head.” In a shaky voice Vanessa asked, “Is she gone?” “Yes, ma’am,” the Lieutenant gently lifted her up, “Come, let’s go inside.” Vanessa followed him inside and I eased over to her balcony. The party was now over, people were starting to leave, and then I saw her come out onto the balcony. Many couples were holding hands and laughing as she stood watching them. Vanessa looked so sad, “Things will never be like that for me. Jack, what was I thinking? I have lost the love of my life; the man I was going to marry and have a family with. My people are trying to persuade me to marry. I had so many suitors tonight.” Hearing this, I started to get upset. “They were nothing like you,” Vanessa continued. This made me happy, but I calmed myself down. She started to laugh and her laughter turned to tears, “Jack, I want to be with you right now. I want everything to be like it use to be, but I know it never will be. I’ve not only lost you, but my sister hates me and wants me dead.” She continued to cry softly until she suddenly stopped, looked down right at me, and then she ran back into her room. Damn it, I must have frightened her… “Did she ever come back out?” Sadly Jack answers, “No, not that night. Later she stopped coming out at all.” “What do you mean, Jack?” the visitor asks. “One night I went to stand under her balcony, but she didn’t come out. I thought maybe she had taken ill, so I came back the next night, but she still didn’t come out. I then after weeks of coming to her balcony, I realized that maybe she had forgotten about me.” “You stopped coming around.” “I started coming around only when she had special gatherings at night.
