Well, looking back on your posts in this thread I'd be inclined to say it's not just "a bad few days." You seem to experience depression a lot, and that's a clear indication that it's condition you should get treated.

Those are things. Things do not make you say you don't want to live. Your reaction to them is the problem and you need to make a commitment to see your GP as soon as you can and get a referral to a therapist of some kind, and once you're there, be honest and do what they suggest. That's not empty words, that's experienced advice that you should take.

I'm on anti-depressants at the moment. I can't really see anyone though as I live in the middle of nowhere. I'd either have to get a lift to the nearest hospital or catch two buses, and buses aren't cheap or quick around here. While I was at Uni I was seeing someone and it did help. I'm hoping to move back there so I can see them again, but that won't be for months.

This is an article that I like to share with people. It's an article that I reflect on whenever I start feeling depressed about the unfairness of life or some particular cursed attribute or condition of mine that I seem helpless to change.

WELCOME TO HOLLAND

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this......

When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.

After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland."

"Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy."

But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.

The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place.

So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.

It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around.... and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.

But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."

And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss.

But... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland.

In the end, though, this too is little more than mere empty words. It's incredibly easy to say that one should change their perspective on life, but it is incredibly difficult to actually do such a thing.

Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"
Because life... is not a movie. Everyone lies. Good guys lose. And love... does not conquer all.

Y'know, I am that child. To me all that I am in regards to the disability seems normal, it's always interesting to see things from an outsider's perspective. I've gotten into a manga series that's about a boy with the same disability, it's really interesting, as I read it I spot things that I can identify in me, and it also allows me to see how behavioural things come across to others.

As for my depression, I seem to be coping OK. It's a struggle sometimes, but it always is.

Tell the doctor that the pills aren't working; (s)he'll probably change the dosage or prescribe something else. He won't be able to help you if you don't say anything. The doctor will also know of therapists you can visit while you're on the antidepressants (I'm assuming that's what you're taking)-- I'm surprised he didn't talk to you about going to therapy when he gave you the prescription. Don't give up because one type of medication doesn't help.

The pills are a bandaid... make an appointment and talk to somebody. I don't want to be cold here, but you aren't going to find answers in this thread. You may get a bit of sympathy, but sympathy isn't what you really need, as it is also a bandaid.

You have to drag yourself out of this (with help of course). Go back and look at your posts on this page alone... you follow a cycle.

I'm really don't want to come across like I'm criticizing you, really I'm not. But the truth is, you have to make the effort to help yourself.

I should have stayed where I was instead of coming home for the summer, I would have been able to see someone there. I couldn't afford to though. I could also have gone out occasionally, met people, had fun, etc. There isn't anything to do here. Even the nearest doctors surgery is long trek away. I really can't think of anything that could help here, I really need to move back to where I was but I need money for that, and all my job hunts have got me nothing but rejection so I won't get any that way.
