Yes. The CO and XO were issued formal reprimands. This occured on my old boat. One of the guys who died worked with me for 3 yrs. sad

I know the CO and XO. Good men.

I'm sorry to hear that, and I hope that things go as well as can be expected for the CO and XO..

Given my severe lack of chicks, I'm gonna go with a big "no" on that one.

Interestingly, though, The Earth's magnetic field can cause a current in the hull of the ship which, in turn, creates a magnetic field around the sub. So, in a way, it is a magnet. Now if only I can tune from "metal" to "chicks". thinking

Edit: Thanks, rummy. From what I understand, it's all over now. The letters of reprimand is as far as it's going to go (as opposed to both of them being relieved of command).

Typically, when we do burials at sea from the sub, it's spreading of ashes from the bridge of the submarine.
Not to sound morbid, but is it not rare that a submarine would take part in a burial at sea?

Ok. I ignored this for a while. Let's see if we can get some new questions.

To answer your question, SFG, we have burials at sea fairly often--about once or twice every 6 months or so.

Update on the recent submarine incidents. Both the CO of the Minneapolis-St. Paul and of the Newport News were relieved of their commands following their incidents.

What kind of uniforms do they wear on subs? Surely not the sexy dress whites.

Hmm... thinking

There used to be a sumbarine nuclear reactor protoype used for training future nuclear operators in Idaho Falls. That's been closed down for some time now. I'm pretty sure that's what you're referring to.

The U.S. navy still has a presence in Bayview at the tip of Scenic Bay. This is home to the US Naval Surface Warfare Center’s, Acoustic Research Detachment. Due to Lake Pend Oreille’s 1,200 foot depth in this area, this lake is uniquely useful for deep water acoustic testing, using remotely controlled submersible craft. It is involved in research and development of methods to make ships and subs, operate more quietly. There are approximately 100 employees and contractors at this detachment, most commute from the surrounding areas.

Just found the info. I just remember a Nautical chart on it a few years back. Pretty cool place.

This is more of a Navy in general question rather than submarines. Well now that I am thinking about it it is more of a Hey Souderwan I want to get to know you better question. Either way here it goes.

Have you ever gotten to fly in a F14D Tomcat? If so did you get sick? Did it feel like Top Gun looks?

Gersh, you're right, of course. But that is not a "base" per say, as much as a research facility. happy Thanks for the info, though.

No, never in a Tomcat. Well...not a real one, anyway. tongue I have flown in the Tomcat simulator (a friend of mine's an instructor) and I've flown in a C-130. Didn't get sick in any of them, but I can't see me getting sick. I do some major back an forth on the boat when we're on the surface in rough weather.

Didn't they retire the Tomcat? I saw something on the History channel, awhile back, about that.

11! grin

Why? That's like asking why do hot chicks get so much attention. Or asking why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near.

Still, submarines are awesome because we can go just about anywhere on over 70% of the planet and put ordnance on just about any spot we want to. Of course, the best thing about submarines is that we can pull up next to the beach and look at all the ladies. wink
