Good question, Juli. tongue

Actually, we say "Up scope" every time we raise it.

(and yes, every time I say "up scope" I picture Lauren Holly in uniform drooling )

She is teh hwatest!

Two quick, movie related questions:

Is the Caterpillar drive in Red October plausible? Explain.

How remarkable was the survival of the crew of K-19 given their massive problems?

Plausible? Yep. Explain?

Umm...are you cleared for that discussion? raised_brow

Seriously though, if you really want a scientific discussion about how this drive was supposed to work in theory, let me know.

It's actually astounding. There were, of course, some artistic liberties taken in the movie but, yeah. Pretty damned amazing. The problem they had with their reactor was enough that the core could have/should have melted down and burned a hole through the ship, putting the reactor at the bottom of the ocean.

I've been wondering the same thing for the longest time! I wouldn't mind them so much if not for all the bird-poop everywhere!!

Of course, Souderwan...you know this all boils down to the one all-important submarine question...

Crimson Tide or Hunt For Red October?

Lee...

Dude...

You didn't...did you really...?

Wow..

No movie that has a dog pissing on a missile silo is worth a second of your time and has no damned business being compared with the great Hunt for Red October.

To end all debate:

The Hunt for Red October > K-19 > Down Periscope > Elmo's Day on a Submarine > Crimson Tide

Perhaps you missed the "and". Ones a better team than the other simply because Alec Bardrin is a chump.

Fine...I'll compromise.

Tim Curry and Sam Neill >>> Viggo Mortensen and Steve Zahn

This is acceptable to me. It is true that the Alec Baldwiness in a given movie does bring down the overall greatness of the work. tongue

That is all.
