I actually have a tendency to like the army outfits better. Although to be fair, the white uniforms I'm used to seeing are the ones up at the naval training facility where they send newbies (near Chicago). Those are not impressive at all and we hardly get to see the one that Souderwan had on in his picture. So its slightly unfair that I see more of the army ones, but I do attract to those for some reason... thinking

I've found that women in my age group tend to really like the dress blue uniforms we wear. On the other hand, the younger women seem to like the whites better (both the dress whites and the service whites).

You're talking about the enlisted uniforms, hon. I agree that the Army enlisted unifroms are much better looking than our enlisted uniforms. I like our officer uniforms better though.

Yes, we can get bored. Six-month deployments aren’t all excitement all the time. Believe it or not, the novelty of being at periscope depth doing battle space preparations or maritime interdiction operations (MIO) wears off after a while.

Most fast attack subs have three TVs for watching movies—one in Crew’s mess, one in the Wardroom (for the officers) and one in the Chief’s quarters. The Navy gets movies on 8 mm and ships them out to submarines. We usually get them after they are no longer in the theaters but before they come out on video. I watched TPM underway off the coast of bad-guy land about two months after it was out in theaters.

We play lots of games as well—usually spades and euchre. On my last deployment, we had a Texas Hold ‘em poker tourney every Friday night for fun (just bragging rights, no money changing hands. We eventually played for prizes.) Some of us played chess as well. We also had a PS2 and an X-box that we played games on. Lots of guys brought their own games. We actually had a karaoke machine that never got used, too. tongue

Does the US Navy have any subs that could compete with the Nautalis? (I may have misspelled it).

Do some of the questions in this thread annoy you?

Aside from that septic incident you alreay mentioned, what's the most severe punishment you've seen handed out on ship (that isn't classified or whatever).

Spades is a great card game, right up there with deuces. Hold'em is pretty fun too, and i'm really out of practice when it comes to chess. I sang karaoke when I was bar hopping with friends back home on birthday on Saturday.

I'd imagine singing on a sub wouldn't be too safe depending on the circumstances and all that.

No way. No sub in any Navy could compete with the Nautilus (assuming you're referring to Captain Nemo's boat).

Every. Damned. Last. One.

Ok..one was kinda cool but I'm not saying which.

Punishment? Actually, our punishments are rather benign. If what you do is more or less benign, usually you end up getting some extra duty or something like that. Occasionally you'll end up cleaning something or hanging out in the TDU space. More serious infractions get you extra military instruction (EMI) or a trip to the green table (Captain's Mast) in which you can get confined to the boat, lose pay, etc.

(FTR, this was not one of the "cool" questions. tongue )

Spades rocks! I don't think I've ever played deuces... thinking

Only in the movies. tongue

It'd be a pretty neat trick to "hear signing" from another submarine.
