I think in ten to fifteen years tattoos are going to be regarded
the same way we look at mullets today. And you know how we look
at mullets today? I thought so.

The difference is, you can cut off a mullet and have your hair
restyled. Quickly and painlessly.

Tattoos on the other hand, are forever. That's what's gonna make
it so much fun. devil

Haven't tattoos been in vogue before mullets became a trend?

Tattoos have been around for hundreds if not thousands of years.

Then again, maybe Jesus had a mullet.

No.

Tattoos became popular in the 90's. Popular people in the 80's would never have thought to get a tatoo, because those were strictly for the "hoods", as I recall.

It will be funny though, years from now, to see grandma and gramps with once-trendy tribal tatoos.

Right, but still...

Tattoos will always be around in some way or another, unlike mullets. They're just not very... eraseable.

My grandfather was in the Merchant Navy and he had tattoos long before I was born. Wasn't an issue then, and I doubt it'll be an issue in the future.

Also in my country tattoos have been pretty popular forever, mostly to do with the traditional Maori designs (and we have a huge Pacific Island population too).

As far as the thread itself goes, I don't really see a reversal in popularity happening, at least not here.

Yeah, I think that's mostly what's funny- Not that people have tattoos . . . But that there's a lot of people who are under twenty-five and have those stars, and now there's a lot of little brightly colored things that match each other (birds, guns, at top of the chest or lower back or hips.) I mean, within a few years the subject matter of a tattoo is kind of dated. Think of all the tattooed suicide girls when they're eighty?

I don't think people on the whole will regret it though. But I expect people's brains to do something funny that has them working hard to justify or see a moral of the story or something, come the future. happy

We should get together and become a tattoo museum. You could get the stars, lower back tattoo, etc. I'd get a big sun on my back, some Japanese writing, "Thug Life," etc. Every time a new trendy tattoo style comes out, we go and get one. Eventually, we would charge admission to see them and we'd guide the viewers through the history. "This is the circa 1996 big sun. A tattoo of this type makes a bold statement of masculine intensity that identifies it with the rockier side of the alternative pop culture of the decade. A bearer of this tattoo may very well have listened to the music of the heavy metal band Pantera alongside such alternative acts as Soundgarden and Rollins Band. This would eventually lead down a path of nu metal acts such as Limp Bizkit and Korn. Like our own sun, his light shone brightly in his solar system of friends and associates; yet as he shirtlessly strolled the grounds of a pop festival such as Lollapalooza or Woodstock '99, one would observe that he was but one star in an endless, dazzling firmament."

Fashion does come and go but tatoos have been aruond for thousands of years dating back to the tribal traditions of Mauris and such.
I would pay to see that, somethingfamiliar.
