Arlon, for once, you have said something I actually agree with.
Store bought birthday cards are indeed tacky and pointless, and require virtually no effort on the part of the person giving the card. You are completely correct, and I am sincere in my agreement here. I think I am going to start buying blank cards and actually take the time to write a real message in my own words to people. I do not understand the purpose in purchasing a card with a pre-written message that you put no thought into yourself.
I didn't watch the rest of the blog though, because I started typing this as soon as you said something correct, because I was shocked.

When it's a good friend I customarily do a typed card, where I point out that a Hallmark card would have come out of their gift/money due to me being a cheap-skate.

I always make these awesome custom cards with intricate colorful drawings. Thank you notes and birthday cards bring out the artist in me.
