Well the stand can break down and become a (very heavy) boom pole, and I have like 30 feet of extension cable for the mic, so all I'd need is someone to operate.

Lucky. Didn't you say you had a C-Stand as well? Any flags with it? You ought to get some of those.
I really wish I had a decent 3 chip camera, an editing system, a simple lighting kit, a boom and an external mic, some XLR, a C-stand or two, and some flags and gels. You don't need a lot of stuff to make a quality project. If I only had that thing...what's it called, ah yes, money.

Yeah, the C-stand is what I mount the mic on. No flags or reflectors, but those are relatively simple DIYs, right?
hm, according to the manual, this camera has one whole CCD. Whoopee.
Yeah, I'm looking at good cameras, but there are so many storage mediums available...I'm interested in solid state (because I hate loading footage, and something always goes wrong)
I thought P2 was awesome and I had been looking at the Panasonic HVX, but now it seems Sony's SxS cards are better. But then I learned about Direct-to-edit devices that you can just hook up to the camera. Of course it all comes down to money, and I only have like 1000 dollars saved up...and I start state uni in two months.
I've got the editing system covered, saved up for an entire year to get there, I just need to learn it. I've gotten a ton of books on Final Cut, Motion, Livetype, and AE, even some of the Apple Pro Training series.
Wow! I just saw the first 3 episodes of the 5th season of Shield last night! Brilliant. The cast has always been great, but then they pile on such an amazing actor as Forrest Whitaker...I am speechless.

How far are you in season 5? Just wait til the finale. There is a scene that takes place that I honestly think is some of the best dramatic writing I've ever seen and is easily one of the most intense scenes I've ever seen from either cinema or television. I do not think I am exaggerating, we will see if you agree!
Anyway, man, I picked a hell of a terrible wedding video for my first job. This cameraman seriously screwed me over on this thing. He completely ****ed up the audio on the vows, which is the most important part of the ceremony. You can barely hear the bride speak. He must have realized he did something wrong because he had them re-speak their vows later in the footage. But here's the thing, he had them re-record it INSIDE. The wedding was OUTSIDE. So I've got good audio of her talking, but it's an indoors environment. And you can hear people setting up the freaking reception in the background. If you want to re-record important audio, yes, good, wonderful, but please please please try to mimic the environment the original was in. This is a huge pain and has seriously delayed how long it's taking me to complete a relatively otherwise simple assignment, meaning I have yet to be paid for anything. I'm pretty sure I can fix it all up tomorrow, mostly, but then the boss still has to approve it or whatever. Arrr. Gas prices are killing me.

Just finished the first 4 eps. I'm taking a summer class, so I can't watch it as much as I'd like. Oh, and I think I might be addicted to Weeds now.

I've only seen the first two episodes of season 4, and I can already tell I love it. I am probably going to buy season 1 soon even though I am rapidly running out of cash.

Today I found an old gift card in the back of my wallet with 23 dollars left on it, so I bought a used copy of Weeds season 1 from Amazon for 19 dollars. Hoorah.
I did the best I could today with the ridiculous audio on these wedding vows. I will probably have to work on it some more tomorrow but I do not know if it is possible to make it sound completely natural. Not only do I have to try to make the re-recorded voices sound like they're outside but I have to try to remove background noise from the same re-recorded audio at the same time. Audio editing is not my talent to begin with. I can do the basics but these sort of shenanigans are frustrating.

Bacon, I see you have posted in the film thread! This is quite the relief and good coincidence, for I almost had to triple post.
I do not understand why hard drives seem to be terrible. I had a problem a few months ago if anybody recalls in which the drive in my laptop died and I lost a great deal of screenplay progress. And I remember at school people's externals were frying all the time. Who makes these gizmos?
To be on the safe side you should always back video up to an external or two I suppose. Since my fiasco with the script I make sure to email myself daily progress so I have the files in my Gmail account should anything unfortunate happen to my drive again.
In the wedding video front I finished my first assignment the other day but the boss hasn't been in to approve it yet. I started on the second assignment today. It looks to be more competently shot. I think I have to talk with the boss man on Monday though, because I don't think I can keep doing this full time. I'm about 45 minutes away, sometimes an hour back due to traffic, and gas prices are seriously killing me. I need to see if I can come in maybe three days a week, and just stay a few hours later on those days. I can't be driving 70 miles five days a week with these prices when I hardly have any money to begin with, and this gig isn't exactly a goldmine.

hmmm well without an external hard drive I will not be able to operate with Adobe because of those ridiculously huge files the system makes under my 75 gig hard drive. I will probably have to consider trying Avid. I would try Final Cut but I do not own a Mac. hopefully Avid does not create tons of huge files.

Hmmm....pretty sure any editing system is going to result in relatively the same file sizes. It's got to be primarily the video files, right? Those things take up a lot of gigs. Avid is a more complex and professional system than Adobe though, so if anything I'd think the files would be larger, but that's just a guess.

well I have read complaints about Adobe's space taking upingness before so I do not know. Does 60 gigs sound reasonable? Most of it was Adobe making 'conformed' files of audio which usually ended up being 2 or 3 gigs each.

Hmmmmmmmmm. That does seem pretty large for audio. Something ain't right. I have like a 150 gig external and all of the footage from my feature film fit into it with room to spare. An hour long wedding video at work has taken up about 40 or 50 gigs, but that's with a lot of ridiculous effects that need rendering.

I thought attending actual weddings was boring. Try watching the same one dozens of times in a week.
Actually I am kind of disenchanted with this job already. I was pretty excited when I got it, but now I am already like "this is not what I'm supposed to be doing." And it's too far of a drive anyways. The people there are cool though.
