Unfortunately, the San Francisco Bay Area isn't like LA or NY when it comes to filmmaking. Also, I don't have a car, and public transportation to San Jose (where there seems to be more film related jobs available) is horrid beyond comprehension. I consider myself lucky to have been able to apply for 7 jobs in 2 months.
Bah. I may indeed have to get a real job.

Are you checking Mandy as well?
Also this might be a ridiculous question, but I am not familiar with CA geography at all, how far is San Francisco from LA?
If a commute isn't workable, you might want to get some crap job for awhile, save up, and head on over there. LA seems like the place to be. Originally I was going to try New York for awhile, and I guess I still will if something comes up, but I think I'm going to re-focus on moving to LA as soon as is realistically possible for me.

You can walk that.
Edit: Are you still going to film school by the way? Or did you finish?
I have this scheme in my head that I've had since I was a freshmen in film school of just packing up and driving cross country from Pennsylvania all the way to LA. I think if I ever save up the cash to make it out there, I'm gonna to do it that way. Should be an adventure.
I probably should have started planning for this a year ago. I refrained from doing anything at all for awhile because I wanted to finish my feature film project from senior year, which was never meant to last beyond graduation at all. Today the film still isn't finished. In hindsight, the entire production was fraked from the moment my University said I couldn't use their equipment over Christmas break. From that moment on the schedule was a constantly shifting nightmare and the production fell apart, and I have recently come to terms with the fact that this project is a failure. I still feel like I owe it to the cast and crew to produce some sort of final product though, but whatever it is won't match up to the script. I need to get it done though so I have less incentive to stay here.

Well here's something to cheer me up. 3 years ago I was an extra in an indie music video, and they just released it now:
yaaaaaaay
Oh god, I forgot I had ponytail then.

I think in about twenty minutes I'm going to throw some Pink Floyd or Janis Joplin on the ol record player and officially start outlining my new script. In theory I should make good progress, since I've been mentally outlining the thing off and on since 2006.
I also have the vague concept for yet another feature film that would be a kind of surreal quasi-Lynchian kind of deal. I don't know if my brain will ponder much more on it or not though for the time being. I also have the idea to separate the story into titled "chapters", each named after a Daniel Johnston song, and that song would show up somewhere in the segment and the lyrics would be relevant to the plot. Like "Don't Play Cards With Satan," for instance. Some of the lyrics go something like "Don't play cards with Satan, he'll deal you an awful hand. Did I tell you, I am a desperate man?"

Well, Comfortably Numb worked for Tom Stoppard, so there's already good precedent for you. I'd go with The Wall in general.

I actually just got a used copy of The Wall a few weeks ago on ebay for like 7 bucks, and both records are in pretty good condition. I don't know what it is about a record player, but there's something about the sound and the old-schoolosity that just make it better. I find that a nice record and a bit of coffee are rather conducive for my writing.
Anyway, I am making some good decent progress. Instead of going straight to outline I've been working on some character bios for the main characters. About a page long apiece. Ought to be rather useful.
The basic idea of this script by the way for anyone interested, is that it takes place in the year 2025, and concerns a group of people who escape from an asylum after being involuntarily committed. The main character was unjustifiably locked up, but they feel he is a danger to society. The dealio is that he is genuinely a peaceful person, but during the pursuit the authorities force him to take increasingly drastic actions to maintain his freedom, ultimately turning him into the danger they claimed he was from the beginning. Escaping alongside of him we've got a bipolar girl, a guy who's been mentally crippled by debilitating brain surgery, and a man suffering from post traumatic stress disorder after serving in Iran. It's going to have some comedy sprinkled throughout, but the ending is quite dark. I'd have a better shot of selling it in the 1970's, but hey, who knows.
The script I finished a first draft of and need to edit is a series of short self-contained stories set in the same universe during the same period of a few days before a comet is meant to impact the surface and extinguish all life on Earth. It examines how a variety of characters deal with the knowledge that they are about to die and the belief that their actions will have no long-term consequences.

Andalite, that would be an awesome film. I can totally picture some interesting stuff happening from what you mentioned. If it's ok, whenever you're finished with a draft or something, I'd love to read it. referring to the insane people one. although the same applies to your apocalypse film as well.
progress on my screenplay:

Bacon, actually, only a few people have read my apocalypse script and I haven't really looked at it in a month or two. Fresh feedback before I get to the editing would be pretty beneficial for me, if you want to give it a read. It's pretty short too.
I would like to do a pre-emptive "I know, I know," but in one scene three characters are named Cory, Topanga, and Sean. I did this because I was writing the scene at like 4:00AM, and I couldn't think of any names, and I thought it'd be funny, but all my readers have assured me it's too distracting a reference. I intend to replace the names.

I can't write...I'm more of an idea person. I come up with a plot line and a couple characters and flash an email over to my film buddy and he writes the screenplay with my input.
Current project: Dark comedy about two guys stalking the same woman becoming competing rivals.

A-B: Not that this thread is about records or anything, but vinyl is apparently on something of a comeback, and sales are up. Some new albums are being released on vinyl. There was an article in Rolling Stone about it last month, I believe.

Yeah, they're also re-issuing some old stuff. I recently got newly released editions of Best of Bob Dylan and Pearl. I've also in stores seen vinyl editions of things like the Juno soundtrack and Flight of the Conchords.
